A.R.Rehman redefined Indian Music and gave a new dimension to it. The only person that in my opinion single handedly changed the face of Indian Music was none other than our Great Pancham Da(R.D.Burman). Anyway this review is about A.R.Rehman so I'll stick to that topic.
I am only going to list the top 10 Hindi songs from A.R.Rehman's Melodious Treasure. In other words please dont get offended if you fail to see songs from movies like Roja, Bombay, Jeans, Saathiya, Hindustani since I consider them as Tamil songs with Hindi words.
1.Tanha Tanha From Rangeela
Asha Bhonsle and Rahman was a Divine Union. Asha ji sang the Title Song from this movie Brilliantly but I chose this song because of the range that she displays. It's a very difficult song to attempt and she came out with flying colors I must say.
2.Khamosh Raat From Thakshak
Most of my selections will have a competition from the same movie and this selection is no different, many people would pick Rang De over this one but I chose this because of the way Rahman used Roopkumar Rathod's silk voice. This song will sweep you away.
3.O Bhavre From Daud
Yesudas and Rahman in a Hindi movie is something you wont often but when it did happen, it was great. Imagining Sanjay Dutt to Yesudas's legendary voice was a little far fetched but it sure did make a great listening.
4.Ramta Jogi From Taal
This song spreaded like a'Rahamania'(Rahman Mania) when it was released in 1999, every single Party was incomplete without this one, The main reason I picked this one is because of the versatility that Rahman displayed by going'All-Punjabi'.
5.Chaiyya Chaiyya From Dil Se
This song popularized Sufi Music in Hindi Cinema like no other, there have been songs that have been'Inspired' from
Sufis but not quite as this one. Spiritual words from none other than Gulzar Saab made it divine. This song resurrected Sukhwinder Singh's career single handedly and he made sure to grab that opportunity.
6.Bheeni Bheeni From Earth
Only Rahman can use a variety of singers in many different ways. He used Hariharan's voice for this simple yet lovely song.
7.Des Mere From The Legend Of Bhagat Singh
Rahman began his career with a patriotic movie(Roja) but this one was different, this was about Bhagat Singh and this song successfully brought what Bhagat Singh would have wanted to convey. Thoughtfully written by Sameer Beautifully sung by Rahman himself and ably supported by his protege Sukhwinder Singh.
8.Chinnamma Chilakamma From Meenaxi - A Tale of 3 Cities
Talking about variety, who would think of blending a South Indian song(words in Telugu) with a Staunch Punjabi voice(Sukhwinder Singh), this song has a unique feel to it and would be appreciated by many music lovers.
9.O Paalan Haare From Lagaan
I had a tough time picking this one over Ghanana Ghanana/Mitwa/O Re Chori but I selected this because of the divine feeling that this song transmits, this song exudes hope and faith and Lata Ji's Eternal voice with the versatile Udit Narayan was just a Nirvana, to say the last.
10.Yuva From Yuva
This is the latest offering from the Master of innovation and I picked this because of it's sound. As the title suggests, Yuva(Youth) is vibrant in every aspect and will make your feet tap. It's a winner.
