When selecting the top ten One Day batsmen, I wanted to make sure that all countries are considered. I think this ten players make a good team.
1) Adam Gilchrist - He may be a very risky batsman, but he turns the course of a match with his big hits. He has the ability to hit the the ball anywhere he wants and unsettle the bowler. He really is a nightmare for the bowlers.
2) Lance Klusener - He proved his ability as a One Day batsman in the 1999 World Cup, but was not given much oppurtunities after that. He could prove costly to the opposition if given a good chance.
3) Virender Shewag - I think that Shewag is a natural stroke maker. He plays the strokes very powerfully so that it doesn't go to the fielder's hand easily. He is dangerous right from the start of the innings till the end.
4) Sanath Jayasuriya - In the Srilankan batting order, one man stands a bit higher. That man is none other than Sanath Jayasuriya. He uses his aggression to unsettle the bowler and let him make mistakes. He takes opportunities even from small errors
5) Saurav Ganguly - The Lord Of The Off Side really is a One Day Specialist. Even if he has some problems with bouncers, his shots on the off side has no match while his lofted shots over mid-on and mid-off terrorize the bowlers. He is extremely dangerous in slog overs. His ability to time the ball is a proved factor.
6) Jacques Kallis - When talking about One Day batsmen, who could forget the pillar that holds the South African batting line up together. This man takes singles and build partnerships at crucial times and accelerates in slog overs.
7) Sean Ervine - When Zimbawe is on the verge of collapse, this man helds it high. He is a stroke maker as well as a good hitter.
8) Hershelle Gibbs - Nothing stops Gibbs when he is on song. He just trashes the bowlers all around the ground and disturbs their concentration and self-confidence.
9) Inzamam-Ul-Haq - This man is the difference maker in the Pakistan team. Whatever be the situation of the team, he plays his natural game. Even if he has some problems in running between the wickets, he has so far managed to improve in it.
10) Marcus Trescothick - One of the most aggressive opernors England ever had. He makes runs quickly in the first fifteen overs with field restrictions which help his team to pile up a good total.
I hope that this team is not a bad one.
