These are my top 10 movies of all time.I would love you all to comment on it and tell me about your favourite film on why.Criticism is accepted(eg:not many action movies) ....and suggestions are welcome....
There are many movies I have wanted to watch but I have never got the chance to like Dance with the Wolves,Citizen Kane,Westside Story,No Mans Land,Gandhi and all Roman Polanski movies...
no more stalling...Here I go..
1.Matrix
I cannot help but rate this song as #1 of all time simply because there cannot have been in the history of Hollywood a better concept than this one. This movie will 25 years down the line become a cult classic with people remembering the lines from the movie, scenes from the movie and so on.
If you havent seen this movie I must recommend it simply because it will Blow your mind.
- The Shawshank Redemption
I agree I Agree...it is Bias ..total Bias..I rate this film really High as it is my favourite movie of all time.It is an unbelievable expression of Life, redemption, despair, happiness and above all Hope. The movie is about an innocent man being sent to a prison and his struggles there facing upto the fact that he cant do anything about the way he wants to live the rest of his life.
3.The Godfather
If Matrix is on its way to becoming a cult classic, this movie is already is.A s one critic put it ''this is the closest hollywood has ever come to Shakespeare in the 20th century''.
Adapted from the book of the same name by Mario Puzo this movie launched people like Al Pacino,Diane Keaton and Robert Duval in a big way and also proving the fact that Marlon Brando is one of the best actors around.
4.Apocalypse Now
This movie was a revolutionary one made in the early 1980's by the same guy who made Godfather -Francis Ford Coppola. The movie uses amazing special effects and wonderful use of camera and sound editing at a point of time when computers wernt used at all in film editing and effects.
The movie is about a soldier who is sent into the Vietnam-cambodia jungles to fish out an american soldier who has become a rebel.Brilliant acting by Martin Sheen and by Marlon Brando.A very young and thin Harrison Ford makes an appearence here.
5.2001-A Space Odyssey
A masterpiece by the king Stanley Kubrick simply because it did complete justice to the book of the same name by Arthur C Clarke. The movie released in the late 1960's had great special effects and explored what man would do in the year 2001.(Things ofcourse which man never did and which made the author to write a book 3001-A Space Odyssey)
6.Silence Of The Lambs
This movie as I had written in my review won the big 5 at the academy awards(film, director, actor, actress and writing). The movie though a little offensive at times has great acting by both Anthony Hopkins who plays an evil but enigmatic murderer and a very young Jodie Foster who plays a young FBI rookie.
7.Forrest Gump
Unlike many people I read the book first and then watched the movie(Author-Winston Groom) and the book was unbelievably funny and witty about a total idiot who ends up in all weird circumstances.
The movie though was more touching and took a more ''realistic'' look to the man's life with brilliant work by Tom Hanks as the lovably idiot who ends being a millionare.
8.Schindler's List
This unforgettable Masterpiece by Steven Spielberg is about a german indrustrialist who helps Jews escape under the noses of the Nazis. The book was a whole lot better in my point of view but spielberg's wizardy with the camera made sure this one was and stayed a masterpiece.
The whole movie was in black and white except for one small little girl who appears in bright red in an unforgettable scene which subsequently makes the man Oskar Schindler realize the futility of war and helping the jews.
9.Scent Of A Woman
I am sorry but I have to include this movie in the list simply because of Al Pacino's unforgettable portrayal of a blind man who wants to end his life . A young boy (Chris O Donnell) is incharge of him during the weekend when he chooses to end his life .
A beautiful movie about the different pleasures in life and one which is a must watch. This movie finally got Al Pacino his Oscar after nearly 7 nominations(an amazing fact but true!)
10.INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK
This spot has been left blank simply because there are too many movies with which I want to fill it .
Examples
1.Gosford Park
2.The Sixth Sense(phew! what a movie!)
3.Saving Private Ryan
4.Raging Bull
5.Taxi Driver and so on
