I`m back after a long long time as I was busy but now I hope to be more active on this website, as before.
2005 was another year in which Bollywood kept its viewers entertained and produced some excellent films. Many big budget and star-studded films released during this year.Mostly, comedy, action and periodic/historical films released in 2005 but the majority of the hits were comedy films like ”No Entry”, ”Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya”, ”Garam Masala”, etc. Still this does not mean that other films were not as good. As usual some brilliant movies released during 2005 and so, I will list my top ten favourite ones.
Black
ing Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Nandana Sen and Shernaz Patel
Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali
“Black” is one such film which proved that Bollywood is definitely progressing and is coming of age. It was a film that was different from usual Bollywood films, in every aspect. It had no songs, it had no candy-floss romance and it did not even have young her-heroine dancing around the trees. Infact, most of the film was in English language, still it did not stop “Black” from becoming a success. Why? Because it touched everyone`s heart. It had a message for everyone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali deserves praise for attempting something so different and succeeding in making his film a ‘hit’. Amitabh Bachcan and Rani Mukerji gave one of their best performances in this movie, which will always remain memorable.
Parineeta
*ing Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, Rekha and Raima Sen
Director: Pradeep Sarkar
“Parineeta” based on a classic novel was a film with wonderful performances by Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and especially debutante Vidya Balan. She was perfect in the title role and all thanks to this movie that it introduced such a talented actress to Bollywood. “Parineeta” was an entertaining film coupled with some excellent songs, which includes an item number by Rekha, which was one of the highlights of this movie.
Mangal Pandey-The Rising
*ing Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherji, Amisha Patel and Toby Stephens
Director:Ketan Mehta
“Mangal Pandey” was one of the most awaited films of 2005 because it marked Aamir Khan`s return to the silver screen after a 4 years break and also because of its big budget, its music by A.R Rahman and its mammoth star cast it was a keenly waited film. Though this film met with mixed reactions from the audiences, still there is no denying that it was a well made movie based on the 1857 War Of Independence with fantastic performances by Aamir Khan and Toby Stephens.
Taj Mahal-An Eternal Love Story
*ing: Kabir Bedi, Manisha Koirala, Pooja Batra, Arbaaz Khan, Kim Sharma, Zulfi Syed and Sonya Jehan
Director:Akbar Khan
“Taj Mahal” was no ordinary film. It was Akbar Khan`s dream which he had kept in his eyes for 9 years and after being in the making for 4 years, this film finally saw the light of its day in 2005. This film is said to be the most expensive film of India with a budget of Rs.80 crore-100 crore and the money spent on this film was visible in each and every scene. The sets, the jewellery, the war sequences and the costumes of this film all looked very grand and this film also had a good story coupled with some fine performances by Pooja Batra, Arbaaz Khan and Kabir Bedi. The music of this film by Naushad (of ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ fame) was another highlight.
Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara
*ing Anupam Kher, Urmila Matondkar, Boman Irani and Waheeda Rehman
Director:Jahnu Barua
“Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara” was another film which was very different from the usual and routine Bollywood flicks. It`s script was very original and interesting and the icing on the cake was terrific performances by its main actors Anupam Kher and Urmila Matondkar. Both the actors gave on of their finest performances and made this film a memorable one.
No Entry
*ing: Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley, Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu
Director: Anees Bazmee
“No Entry” was the biggest hit of the year 2005 and there was no reason why it was not to be a hit. It was a comedy film which actually succeeded in making the viewers laugh, something which mostly Bollywood films lack in. It had a good star cast which included Salman Khan, who has a huge fan following, a seasoned actor like Anil Kapoor and a sizzling Bipasha Basu. This movie had some really funny scenes which made it the year`s most entertaining film.
Bunty Aur Babli
*ing:Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai
Direcotor:Shaad Ali Saigal
“Bunty Aur Babli” definitely did not have a good message to give to the youth but still it turned out to be a good entertainer due to excellent chemistry between Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji and also due to the fabulous performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji. To add to it, Aishwarya Rai`s presence in the super hit song ‘Kajra Re’ made this film even more enjoyable.
Kisna
*ing:Vivek Oberoi, Isha Sharvani, Antonio Bernath, Amrish Puri, Sushmita Sen and Hrishitaa Bhatt
Director: Subhash Ghai
“Kisna” was surely not liked by the viewers and coming from Subhash Ghai, it disappointed everyone big time but still it was one of my favourite films in 2005. The beauty of Antonio Bernath, the extra-ordinary dances performed by Isha Sharvani, the beautiful cinematography and excellent music by A.R Rahman and Ismail Darbar made me like this film a lot and it will remain a memorable film for me.
Sarkar
*ing Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Tanisha Mukherjee, Supriya Pathak, K.K Menon, Katrina Kaif and Rukhsaar.
Director: Ram Gopal Varma
“Sarkar” was another hard-hitting underworld drama by Ram Gopal Varma after other of his memorable films such as “Satya” or “Company”. “Sarkar” consisted of some brilliantly executed scenes with power-packed performances especially by Amitabh Bachchan and Kay Kay Menon.
