My Dream Bollywood Movies and Directors
Mar 19, 2010 05:46 PM 7005 Views

I will begin with my favorite Bollywood directors, from as many movies(limited, when compared to Hollywood movies) as I could see. I made my choices because of a sense of adrenaline rush or a flood of positive feelings I felt watching their works. It's a bit hard to describe why I chose them but here goes -

(in no particular order)

Iqbal Durrani

His movies - Dhartiputra, Khuddar, Betaaj Badshah, Mitti and Dukaan: Pila House

I've only seen his Khuddar so far and that's the only Govinda movie I loved. His dance, action scenes, music and the sexy dance moves of Karisma Kapoor - heady mix of ingredients that made this movie a blockbuster during the mid 90s.

Shimit Amin

His movies - Ab Tak Chhappan, Chak De India! and Rocket Singh

I enjoyed watching all his flicks and my personal fav is Chak De India . I saw that 3 or 4 times and I wouldn't mind watching it forever! One of the best sports movies in India.

Nagesh Kukunoor

His movies - Hyderabad Blues, Hyderabad Blues 2, Rockford, Bollywood Calling, 3 Deewarein, Iqbal, Dor, Bombay to Bangkok, 8 x 10 Tasveer....

I think everyone agrees his best movie yet is Iqbal starring Shreyas Talpade. And Bombay to

Bangkok is so funny despite bombing commercially. It's heartening to read that despite criticisms from all quarters, Nagesh is determined to make movies in his own style only for his dedicated fan following, including yours truly.

Aamir Khan

His movies - Taare Zameen Par

What a debut direction! Taare Zameen Par brought tears to many eyes, especially the climax scenes. A must see movie for all teachers and children with learning disabilities.

Ashutosh Gowariker

His movies - Pehla Nasha, Baazi, Lagaan, Swades, Jodhaa Akbar, What's your Rashee? My fav work of his is Swades . Many didn't appreciate What's your Rashee? but I thought it was cool. Maybe there were too many dance & song sequences for the viewers to cherish.

Mansoor Khan

His movies - Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Josh

Another wonderful director. My fav is undoubtedly Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander - a dream entertainer

really. Akele Hum Akele Tum starring Aamir Khan is one of the best courtroom dramas I've seen. Also Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak had endearing songs and a cute couple in Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. Their innocence in the movie is something to die for.

Nishikant Kamat

His movies - Dombivli Fast, Evano Oruvan, Mumbai Meri Jaan

Again, another cool director. Mumbai Meri Jaan is an amazing modern movie on patriotrism, and

very entertaining too.

Shekhar Kapur

His movies - Masoom, Mr India, Bandit Queen

Unbelievably, I've seen only his Mr. India so far. I watched that, lemme recall, 10 times or probably more than that. There's a sense of magic(even literally in the movie) every viewer must have felt. Shekar made everyone dream to be a superhero like Anil Kapoor rescuing the heavenly Sridevi.

Rajkumar Hirani

His movies - Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots

For me, his best is Lage Raho Munnabhai . A lovely movie that tugged on all possible feelings in me. Part of it's huge success(both in our hearts and in box office) is due to the irresistible combination in Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. As Boman Irani said during Filmfare awards, hope Rajkumar Hirani continues to make movies with the same sense of passion and innocence as he had so far.

Kabir Khan

His movies - The Forgotten Army, Kabul Express, New York

This man has an intelligent style of filmmaking that I like. I've seen only New York. Saif Ali Khan said regarding his movie Kurbaan, "Kurbaan is a better movie on terrorism than New York." I feel, although Kurbaan gave more attention to the terrorism issues, New York is the better directed

movie.

Aatish Kapadia

His movies - Khichdi

Khichdi was a very fun, roller coaster ride and also very entertaining from start to finish. This is Aatish Kapadia's debut Bollywood movie. I think he should make more & more. Endearing talent. Now coming to the my all-time favorite movies, if I can view them repeatedly without getting bored,

they are in my list. So here goes -

Khuddar
