We all are familier with Star Sports and ESPN TV Channels. Star Sports now have many separate channels like Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, HD1, HD2 etc. ESPN is now merged with Star Sports and they dont have any separate channel in India.
Another channel namely Ten Sports has also come up with some variants like Ten Action, Ten Cricket, Ten Golf, Ten HD etc. apart from the main channel Ten Sports. Among these, Ten Action is my most favorite as I am a die-hard football fan. I closely follow the club matches of Spain, England etc. Hence, UEFA Champions League is a must watch for me(and this time for 2014-15 session, my favorite team Barcelona has become the champion.VIVA BARCA!).
Though Spanish League/La Liga is aired either on Star Sports 2 or 4, the Spanish Super Cup/Copa Del Rey is broadcasted through Ten Action.
This channel normally covers French League(League One). They show all the matches of this league. Star Sports generally cover English Premiere League and Spanish League. Sometimes if two matches from these 2 leagues overlaps, Star Sports dont show the Spanish League matches in their non-HD channels. This is a real problem with them. But Ten Action does not have any conflicts.
Apart from French League, Ten Action also covers Hyundai A-League(Australian League). Another nice thing is that, this channel airs our very own I-League too. So for East Bengal, Mohan Bagan, Salgaokar and other Indian clubs' fans, this is an added bonus. There was a time when we watched these matches in DD Sports. But transmission, camera angles, commentary etc. are better in Ten Action.
Most important is this channel shows UEFA Champions League(UCL) and UEFA Europa League. We all know that UCL is the highest competition of European clubs and in the era of Lionnel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo, UCL has become a must watch for soccer freaks. A few years back we could not have imagined to watch these kind matches and thanks to Ten Action for covering such a beautiful event. Not only the UCL, Europa League is also a pleasure to watch.
Like Spanish Super Cup/Copa Del Rey in Spain or FA Cup in England, Germany has also its own DFB Pokal apart from Bundeshliga and fortunately Ten Action also covers that.
There are coverages for other sporting events too like WWE, Tennis(ATP World Tour), Car Racing etc. Some small duration featured programs regarding football or other kind of sports are also being telecast by Ten Action. But this channel is mainly for football and this kind of channel was long awaited by football lovers like me. U can view their program listings in Ten Sports website.
The main 2 downsides are - i) Camera Angles in UCL games are not very accurate. A few times the camera can not follow the ball properly and ii) the camera captures the game from a significant distance.Star Sports' EPL coverage is better than Ten Action's coverage as we can have a closer look of the game in case of the former.
Now a days, in my VIdeocon D2H, I have been noticing some alpha-numeric numbers coming up constantly on the screen where the score is displayed. I dont know if it is a technical problem of the channel or some fault of the DTH service, but it has become irritating. Nevertheless, Ten Action is a very good sports channel covering many soccer events and this is by far the best soccer channel in India.
