Tata Sky Plus which comes with video recorder is a good idea.
However they software provided on the box really sucks. It is a bloated interface, with very small fonts. To make sense out of it you have to either have a large screen or have to stand close to the TV set.
The website is pathetic as well. To schedule a simple recording you have to do hell lot of a traversal.
There are occasional issues of the set top box rebooting automatically which correct on their own. There is no explanation of why it happens.
Many times the channel schedules are absent and they always maintain that the channel is at the fault and there is no problem in their system.
All of the above things can be tolerated, however if you are unlucky enough to have to talk with their customer service, the pathetic standard of service will be exposed.
Their service staff is full of morons(or possibly trained parrots whose voice somewhat resembles humans).
Following is one example of my recent interaction:
Me: Reported that their "program guide" feeds are not working citing the URLs. I specifically mention to pass on the issue to IT people as level 1 can't solve this.
Reply: As requested we are providing you old to new channel mapping.
Me: No I didn't ask you that. These are URLs where program guide data is missing. Please pass on the issue to IT.
A call in reply: Please go to your TV and I'll help you resolve the issue.
Me: No but the issue is with internet URL.
TSP: No no, just go to the TV and I'll help you.
Me:.
Hangup.
In general this is an issue with most service providers(internet, phone, satellite tv) etc. They deploy an army of morons to keep you from complaining about anything. Their IT resides in a fool's paradise happily getting paid as there is no issue ever reported with their systems.
Not sure where to break the jinx.
