I am a Tata Indicom customer for the last 6 months. I have a 1 MBPS unlimited connection that costs me Rs 4200 rupees per month. Last week I received a mail from Tata telling me that I had been upgraded for free to the 2.5 MBPS plan. I'm guessing this has something to do with some mandate the government has passed, which stops internet providers from bleeding customers dry.
I checked my speeds and the download speeds still showed the same rate(107 kbps). So I called Tata's customer care and they sent a guy over in under 24 hours(which is excellent - I've been a Reliance Broadband customer - and so I know). However, my high expectations of Tata came crashing down once their service rep paid me a visit.
My internet speeds were testing(on speedtest.net) at 0.9 MBPS(both upload and download). However, after Mr Khalil Jalgoankar(Tata's rep) was done with his handywork, my speeds plummeted to 0.6(dl) and 0.2(ul). Far from doubling my speeds, the genius from Tata had halved it.
He then tried to give me some jargon telling me about the 1:8 ratio. Thankfully, I have some knowledge about the ratio and the protocol attached. I didn't buy his explanation. He insisted that he had done his job - unfortunately, his job had reduced my speeds to a dial-up connection level(for which I would still pay Rs 4000 per month?)
Currently, Mr Khalil is still struggling in my office - only because I threatened to disconnect my internet and complain individually about him and his smarmy boss(Suhas). I do not write this to tell you about how bad Tata's internet is. Infact, I've tried MTNL, Reliance and the local vendor. Tata is by far the best. But the people they outsource their customer care to are retards. They are ill informed, have no etiquette and are full of BS. If you are paid a visit by any Tata net person do the following -
1> Run a speed test on speedtest.net before they touch your connection. Take a screen shot of the results. 2> Get a sign off from the Tata guy on this. 3> Then let him touch your connection.
All the best my brothers and sisters. I hope you will not get conned in your quest for high internet speeds.
