Reema kagti is back with her second directorial venture "Talaash" after her first critically acclaimed film "Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd" (2007). And once you watch Talaash, you will agree that she has matured as a director in these years.
'Talaash' was much awaited film of this year after its release got pushed twice earlier. Though for some reasons the production houses (Excel & Aamir Khan Productions) kept a low profile as far as its publicity is concerned. Probably they realize that an Aamir Khan film doesn't need publicity and it true.
Since it’s a suspense thriller giving away the plot is not an option here. But just to give a brief. In a mysterious circumstance an accident takes place in Mumbai and Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) comes forward to handle the case. Surjan Singh who stays with his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherjee) is already dealing with a personal crisis. As the search begins Surjan comes across several characters entangled with one another and most beautiful of them all was Rozie (Kareena Kapoor) a pr0stitute. Now how finally his search ends is worth a watch and will keep you glued to your seats.
I have already mentioned above that Reema has matured as a Director and as you sit through the film you will nod in unison. When you work with stars an important talent of directors is to know how to control performances. So that audience sees Surjan, Roshni and Rozie rather than Aamir, Rani and Kareena. Reema has done a wonderful job at that front.
Visuals don’t over shadow the plot line at any given point and that credit goes to Mohanan (Cinematographer). But Sharmishta Roy's production design has complimented Mohanan's work and you get to cherish the glamorous nights of Mumbai in the film. This is probably the first time I am mentioning about Costume (Manoshi Nath, Rushi Sharma) and Make up (Pompy Hans, Roo Maurice, Ritesh Naik). They do a superb job by ensuring not to stand out unnecessarily at anyplace. The characters look real because of them.
Coming on to performances, one word can sum it up "Flawless". All the 3 actor/stars are so much their characters not trying to overshadow each other. Aamir, Rani, Kareena all three have proved that they are seasoned actors. But coming on to the secondary cast, whether is Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shernaz Patel, Raj Kumar Yadav, Sheeba Chadha & few others are treat to watch.
Strangely Music of the film by Ram Sampath, has not been promoted either. But the album has some melodious tracks worth playing in loop. My personal favorites are:
"Muskaanein Jhooti Hai” sung by Suman Sridhar; "Jiya Lage Na" by Sona Mohapatra, Ravindra Upadhyay and "Laakh Duniya Kahe" by Ram Sampath
To sum up "Talaash" is a perfect suspense thriller, which keeps you, gripped for 2 hours 19 mins. So I would suggest you stop reading reviews and catch the first show that you can before some sadist FB user spoils the suspense.
