''Swades - We, the people'', it's about us Indians and it is something that we shouldn't be proud of.
No use trying to give a summary of the story, because it is one of those movies that has to be watched, understood, felt and implemented. I am only giving my views.
It is being labelled a non-commercial, documentary film. To be frank, it is. But then, you can't take away any credit from it. If the Chopras, Johars take you into a new fantasy world, Swades introduces you to that aspect of India which we urbanites cannot even imagine. It is India as it is, not a point less, not a point more.
It's infact a change from the high masala and out of the world films. It showcases the poverty and inability of rural India to fight exploitation. It shows how a settled NASA Manager Mohan Bhargav leaves his high profile job for a quite life in the village because he wants to do something for his country, he wants to lay an example to others.
It has a message for all Indians. Don't use the national problems as an excuse and blame the government. Do what you can and you shall have no problems. It's no use crying over spilt milk. When we are out done by other nations, we bring our culture, customs to our defence. The film tells us to learn from others positives and not give excuses.
Other way, the film is entertaining too. The debutant actress is just too good. To sum it all - a typical Indian beauty. Infact I would rate her as one of the most mature and good looking woman in the whole of bollywood. It's getting harder for me to get her out of my mind. I would leave a proposal from Britney Spears, Ashwariya Rai or any one else for her.
Even though the film is slow moving it makes you laugh and occasionally cry too.
People say that Main Hoon Na is complete entertainment, but if a serious film watcher sees this, he will agree that it is one of the most rare and mature movies that Bollywood has ever produced. Keeping my fingers crossed, I hope it is just the beginning.
Concluding this article, I feel that all those people with a heart and a brain ought to watch this film. I bet it will bring about a change in you.
