Such movies have become a rarity and I watched it because of the fact that I was tired of watching innumerable flicks with people flying around like flies or laughing at cheesy one liners or even clapping at those slow motion entries our heroes make that gives them a larger than life image. And let me tell you one thing, this movie is nothing like that and it portrays that good and sensible cinema does exist. It is one of those movies which make characters revolve around the plot rather than making the plot revolve around a single character. It has brought some fresh air into the box office that is riddled with the so called “cash milking cows”. You will never regret watching this movie as it brings blends in well with real life. In one sentence I’d describe this movie as an entertainer that has got all the ingredients that makes it taste good across all ages and proves to be a good lesson in human relationships and their importance.
Story – The plot of this movie revolves around a family of two brothers Peddodu (Venkatesh) and Chinnodu (Mahesh Babu) with strikingly different characters, their father, played by Prakash Raj who happens to be a very caring man and is liked all the villagers and their mother played by Jayasudha who as always looks refreshing in her role. We also have their sister Abhinaya whose marriange and its aftermath forms the crux of the story . Peddodu is a stern and daring and who stands up to all the wrong doings of people and knowingly or unknowingly falls into disastrous situations while Chinnodu happens to be lazy and happy go lucky guy who shies away anything like that and is smart enough to talk people out of such situations, but still being a nice guy at heart. Peddodu has become a butt of jokes for his family members for being unemployed, but he dreams to make it big one day while Chinnodu is charming and has an MBA degree so is revered among his family members. This puts a strain in the relationship between the brothers at times which is otherwise rosy and both of them love and respect each other. Then we have our gorgeous ladies , Seetha played by Anjali and Geetha played by Samantha who are Pennodu’s and Chinnodu’s love interests respectively. When everything seems great, a tremendous misfortune happens to hit the family. What happens next forms the rest of the story. Can they win their love and manage to get over that misfortune? Sorry for the spoiler but watch the movie for the remaining story.
Cast Performances – Venkatesh who had been struggling a bit in his career for a while does a wonderful job in playing an unfortunate older brother. I always thought that doing action movies was not his cup of coffee and he should concentrate on these kind of movies in the future. He has gotten into the skin of his character really well shows all those subtle emotions at the right moments. This may breathe some life into his career.
Mahesh Babu – Given his image and the hype surrounding this movie, he has done a good job and has pulled of the character well. But at many places in the scenes involving him and venkatesh, I felt that he could have been better because Venky really had an upperhand in most of them. Neverthelss, his portrayal of a charming youngster will charm its way through viewer’s minds.
Anjali – I have always been in awe of the characters whe has played though out her career and this is no different either. As an innocent girl but chirpy who dreams about a life with her man, she has outdone most of the other actors in the movie. Full marks to her for this portarayal.
Samantha – I can’t say anything bad about her because absolutely in love with her. But as for her performance is considered, I felt it was pretty much off the mark in the second half and could have been much better. But leaving that aside she has been at her gorgeous best throughout the movie.
Prakash Raj – Again being an absolute admirer of this actor, who is one of the most versatile actors in India today, I have nothing to complain. His plays his role of a caring family man with atmost perfection.
Jayasudha – Inspite of being a family movie, her role I guess was largely underplayed. But this shines in whatever space she got. No problem here either.
Others have also pulled of their best giving this movie rich flavor in terms of really likeable characters.
Direction , Screenplay, Script and Cinematography – Director Srikanth Addala has done a very good job in this movie. The Script is fresh, does not involve over the top violence or too much melodrama and the camera work is absolutely fantastic. The script has all those comic and sentimental moments which makes you feel as if you are a part of that family and something every person can easily connect with. Apart from some parts of the second half which seems to be stretched a little bit, I did not find anything wrong with the movie. In fact this is one of the best family entertainers that I have seen in recent times. Kudos to the team for pulling off such a great family entertainer. The songs and the way it is captured is brilliant and the movie also has a wonderful village backdrop which I loved.
Music - Mickey J maeyer effort has paid off with some wonderful songs and background score doing the trick for the movie. The movie may not be that hip but it is more likeable and with suit the old movie going audience. It catches the flavor of its Village backdrop very well and title song escpecially has been brilliant. 4/5 for the music from me.
Verdict – As I already said earlier. The movie is different from many of them which are hitting the screens these days and it’s a wholesome family entertainer which is wonderfully crafted to suit all the audiences. Definitely should be on your list of must watch’s during this weekend. And don’t forget to take your entire family and I you have a brother whose birthday is just around the corner, an SVSC movie ticket might be the most special gift you can give him. My rating 4.5 /5
