My mother was undergoing treatment in hospital for cancer. I am neither satisfied with the doctor nor with the hospital. There are two aspects, at first the hospital management and second one is the doctors itself.
With the hospital management, in my opinion, please avoid displaying your insurance cards. It is always better to get the refund later from the insurance company. This safeguards the patients interest. In our case, hospital did not give much information on the tests being conducted and the frequency of the same. We were told that the bills are required to be sent to the insurance company. However, our contention is that, the copies of the bills can be provided to the attendants, even when treatment is going on in the hospital, at least when requested. If you happen to be there, please avoid display of your insurance cards. You will have a bit of paperwork later on to reclaim the hospitalization expenses, however ultimately your ultimate goal is met, where patients interest are safeguarded as every purchase(test or medicine) goes through you. Most important is that they keep looking for you, off course to make the periodic payments, but ultimately you come to know where the treatment is heading.
On Doctors:
We learnt, hard way, always better to take a second opinion even on big names.
The big names may not be open to discuss, may be they do not have time. However, more than openness, the sensitivity towards suffering patients and their family members is important. When there is no chance of survival, doctor must let the family members know.
Unfortunate and sad that my father was still waiting for her, hoping for some more time as he interpreted with the doctors response.
Relatively, in other hospital with another doctor, when a family member was seriously ill, the doctors gave us regular update on the status and on the line of treatment. Also, when the time came, doctor's told us clearly that the procedures are there, but they will be more trouble that the relief. They respected the old age, they knew, and told us that its time to respect the body and the soul. All the commercialization was set aside, we had time to hold his hand and pray for him when he left us.
Unfortunately, as we did not go through a good experience at SUT, we do not recommend SUT. In our opinion, please do a survey, and we feel you will end up avoiding the SUT and its big shot specialist's.
