You have to keep your seat belts fastened for nearly two and half hours to enjoy watching this movie. I watched this movie long time ago. I really can’t recall when exactly that was. The movie was released on December 15, 1978. Well, why I am reviewing this movie now??? History repeats! As a child I loved Superman and many other such heroes. Of course we had to make do with comics and fight over them! Why did I say history repeats? I have two sons. One is aged two and the other is five and half. Well right now I am talking of the one who is five and half. He too loves Superman and all the other heroes. So what happens if he loves them like I did??? Well I end up watching all the movies he watches. And here I go with the review of a movie, which I watched yeas ago, and I am watching it now again and again and again…
Superman is a myth and Richard Donner made a blockbuster out of it. Superman was born on the doomed planet Krypton. He spent his childhood in a small Kansas town. His parents on planet earth named him Clark Kent. As he comes of age he learns the truth of his alien birth while on a voyage of discovery to the Arctic. That’s where he builds his ''Fortress of Solitude''. While in this fortress, he links to his long-dead biological father. Through this link he learns of his superhuman abilities. He also learns that he has a responsibility to preserve and protect ''truth, justice and the American Way.'' Then he has the task of adjusting to the big city, Metropolis. He also discovers that hiding his superpowers as a mild-mannered reporter, Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) isn't easy. He flirts with hard-nosed Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). He battles super villain Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman), etc. etc. You should watch this movie.
This film has a cast of stars like Jackie Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ned Beatty, Glenn Ford, Terence Stamp, and Valerie Perrine. All of them have done a wonderful job.
It had four Academy Award Nominations including Best Music, Best Sound and Best Editing. It did win an Academy Award and that is the Special Achievement Award for the ground breaking special effects.
