Subway is one of those rare fast food chain outlets that I like and admire. I have been using Subway since 2006, i-e, since the last 10 years, though I eat there mostly when I travel abroad because it is one of the best vegetarian, healthy meal option available there.
When I lived in Singapore and New Zealand for a couple of years each, Subway was like a great support to me. For $8-10 (I dont know the recent prices), you get a footlong, healthy, delicious, sumptuous, tasty sandwich having lots of green, fresh veggies. Add spicy sauces and condiments and cheese on the top of that. Isn’t it awesome?
The only downside is that in India it costs you Rs.200-300! If you’re getting a nice Thali for Rs.100-150, why would anyone want to eat a sandwich thats costs Rs.300, especially if you can easily make exactly the same thing at home at less than Rs.50? So I have felt like eating Subway sandwich in India, as there was no need or even budget for it, frankly speaking. But I must admit that it is a fabulous and almost indespensible choice abroad! Because there you anyway spend atleast $8-10 for a nice, tasty, vegetarian meal, and a footlong veggie sandwich with patty, can be an excellent choice in the same price range - taste-wise, healthy nutrients-wise, availability-wise and time-to-serve wise. Subway has been an inspiration for me. Many times I make Subway-style sandwiches at home, by buying all the material myself - onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicums, cheese, sauces etc. When made correctly with appropriate combination of sauces and spices, it can be like heaven!
Subway has a very goof footprint almost all over the world, in many big and small cities. It is this ubiquitous presence and fast making process, that makes it a good choice. Also Subway outlets have very good service standards. Apart from having a good range of menu, they are spacious, have plenty of seating arrangement - indoors/outdoors, a nice queuing system, polite, well-mannered, well-trained service staff, clean and hygienic environment etc. I have also heeard that they make their own bread! Wow!
I hope Subway continues its good work, and comes up with more innovative food products regularly. My best wishes are with you!
