Well for those of you who are aware of the classic punjabi restaurant Urban Tadka at seven bungalows.. will know exactly what I am about to share with you. Urban Tadka is a restaurant which is known for its cool interior and authentic punjabi servings alongwith some really innovative drinks and not to forget the who's who crowd of film and television crowding there for a table. URban Tadka is that popular even after three years in business that people still have to wait at least for a half hour on a weekday for a table. They do not take reservations over the phone but serve you on first come, first serve basis.
So to my delight I ended up going to this place called Suburban Tadka which is pretty close to my work place - thinking it might be a sister concern of the same Urban Tadka. (Although they have branches over Mumbai by the same name) ANyways, a bunch of us headed to the place and I was quite enthused to begin with cause the menu card was an exact replica too!! It was only when the order was being served that I realised it indeed was a cheap imitation of the original restaurant. I ordered the regular nimbu paani tadka which tasted like it was a drink of red chillies!! yuckie!! I then proceeded to order my regular dishes and no prizes for guessing - although they looked the same - they tasted nothing like the original. The tandoori arbi was not boiled enough and it was kachcha!! The paneer in the methi paneer was hard.
The dal was cold. Even the jalebi wasn't sweet enough.... All in all it was a miserable experience. Just wanted to write this review to bring to the notice of the regular customers of Urban Tadka who might make the same mistake that I did.. beware!!! If you can't visit URban Tadka, just pick up the phone and order... which is exactly what I will do the next time around!!
