Just beside Cauvery, near the Brigade road - MG Road crossing .. is Styx .. climb up a flight of stairs .. your buddies in tow .. the door opens .. and ... something hits you.
Decibels.
The music is mind blowing. The decor understated but cool. The crowd - a mix of the serious rocker, the wannna-be-cool software engineer, the angry college kids sporting pantera tee shirts, and the chicks who have to go home by 9.
But you got to be careful, if you are more into bubble gum rock and insist on branding rammstein or slayer as ''noise'' -this definitely is NOT a place for you.
Its a great place for a first date - there's enough music to drown any uncomfortable silences out. The hitch is that you cant really talk here. Its simply too loud.
Pitchers .. pints .. bottled beer.
Margueritas, screwdrivers, planter's punch, tom collins - you name it you get it. And they try their best not to screw up the cocktails. ( Pssst ... never ever have cockails at the TGIF on Airport Road .. they are egad !!! )
The DJ keeps belting out heavy metal and hard stuff.
Thats the long haired one - forgot his name.
The chick DJ plays a lot of songs you may not have heard before .. all heavy stuff of course.
Both of them play ur requests provided you dont ask for Shakeera.
Staff can be a bit unhelpful at times, I guess the decibels drive them nuts. Not too many seats available, so they just might pester you .. Sir, anything else ! ... if they find your pitcher empty.
Three songs you are definitely gonna hear in an evening spent at Styx :
Rob Zombie - Blacken the sun
Rammstein - Du hast mich
The trooper - Iron Maiden
Am ready to take a bet with ANYONE that they are gonna play at least 2 of these songs any given weekend :)
Ah yes .. sometimes they do have these special Ozzy nites and stuff. Loads of video .. the big screen .. great time assured.
Try to get the seat just across the screen, beside the aquarium, and stay there for the whole evening. The screen aint visible from all parts of the pub. Make sure you reach by 6 30 on a weekend, and just grab the place. Your styx experience might be way lot better from this vantage point. Not just the screen, but you can poll the entrance at times to check out the next busty chick that walks in ( or the hunky dude ... whatever )
Have ur beer slowly .. otherwise the waiters are gonna come n pester u.
Dont drive for 10 minutes after coming out of Styx. Get the numb sensation out of your system.
Have fun !
