Believe me or not but I didn't find anything strange in A Stranger
in the Mirror. I have read Sidney's other books like 'Bloodline' and 'If Tomorrow comes' and I was looking forward to reading this one. But I was a bit disappointed for the book seems to be telling nothing new except for the climax. The story although being fast-paced somehow reminds of having read such a plot somewhere before. It makes for fun reading nonetheless.
A Stranger in the Mirror is a story about two people who come to Hollywood to pursue their dreams. One is Toby Temple who wants to become a comidian and how he struggles for endless years untill finally makes his dream materialise. Toby being brought up by his mother has a firm belief hammered into his mind by his mother that one day he would own the world. Toby does!
And his enormous organ owns a lot more.....!
The other, almost parallel story, is of beautiful and young Josephinne alias
Jill Castle who comes to Hollywood for the same reason as Toby's. Being young and sexy this disillusioned woman very soon learns that in order to achieve what she had dreamt she should use her body. She does.....!
Toby and Jill are bound to cross each other one fateful day. Toby through his talent had achieved everything, Jill owned everything by owning Toby (despite of 20 years of age difference between the two). But what happens next is only to be found out from the book. The climax is very gripping and unexpectant.
What I gotta say??
Well I again say I am a bit disappointed because throughout I felt the book was reaching a porn flick kind of stage. Boy it is a lot erotic and makes for exciting reading. It's very very predictable at the same time.What a man and a woman should undergo in order to make it big in show bizz is all too well known. However Sheldon being from the same bizz is successful in bringing out the events. Another highlight of the book is that a reader is unable to bear the suspense. That keeps the novel fast paced and keeps you turning the pages hungrily to know what happens next. A perfect book if you enjoy thrill, suspense and yo erotica!
