High-handed and careless treatment by Department of Nephrology especially Dr Anantharam Jairam(professor), Dr Anirban Palit(Nephrology resident)- which led to the untimely demise of my husband.

They don't care about patient autonomy, never assessed why certain parameters were worsening in the patient after Peritoneal dialysis was started, refused our wish of resuming hemodialysis and unnecessarily changed the chronic medications of the patient and forcibly administered erythropoietin injection to him even after we refused.

The Critical Care Team too worked on my husband with the pre-conceived notion of his co-morbidities and spoke of the poor prognosis insensitively in front of my already intubated but fully conscious husband(scaring him)- due to their judgemental nature, they did not give their 100% to saving my husband. The nurses kept making us run around to different pharmacies across the hospital to get medicines - can't they send their Aides for that? My husband who walked into the hospital for admission, returned home as a dead body 2 weeks later.

Nephrology department of St. John's Medical College Hospital, mismanaged a patient who died after he walked in for admission. The arrogance, ego, high-handedness and complete lack of respect for patient's autonomy still remains among the Consultants in Nephrology, as well as Nephrology Junior Resident Doctors(DM Students)

They laughed at patient"s attenders when they asked questions regarding patient"s treatment and they were experts in putting the blame on patient's attenders for issues happening with the patient. Junior doctors like Anirban never used to visit the patient during holidays and very arrogant while answering to the patient's attenders.

The ICU team were also poorly trained, were unable to recognise and properly manage.

Heart attack which the patient had.

All in all both these departments on paper are claimed to be one of the best in India, but in reality they are all hype no substance.

Strongly recommend against this hospital. Don't bring your loved ones to John's if you wish them to live.
