I always have a bad luck of watching movies at worst movie halls and this is not an exception.
To Start with this movie hall is owned by legendary Actor S.S.Rajendran who was a cult figure in early 50's and who thrilled the fans by his breath taking dialogue delivery and for his Dictaphone Tamil Pronunciation- a feat only matched by the Thespian Sivaji Ganesan.
This movie hall is a tribute to SSR's Wife Pankajam and hence its christened as the same.
I always go for movies in theatres other than Satyam or Santham Complex when I'm left with no choice or like my urge for watching movies even at the worst scenario and this is what prompted me to watch one particular movie at this movie hall on a fateful day.
My first surprise was the tickets - Tickets were available at the ticket counter but the rates were not printed there.
I was least bothered about the rates too coz I've the habit of buying the tickets at Black too if I felt like watching a movie but one need to admit the cost was Nominal.
The theatre was supposed to be Air conditioned and was equipped with Dolby stereo system.
There was quite enough space which was decorated colourfully, though I need to admit the car parking space was the same area I was standing in, it also had the posters of one of the most expected movies to be released this year - Anniyan ( Shankar Director movie - Vikram in Dual roles ) and I was deeply engrossed in that when the Bell rang an indication for the audience to enter the hall.
When I entered the hall , It was like Dejavu- All my worst experiences in one capsule.
1) The seats were missing
2) I sat in one seat and jumped off immediate - a nail had pierced my thigh
3) The hall was making me drowsy - thanks to the bleaching powder used to clean after the previous show
4) A/c was switched off and the fans were switched on
5) In between I was braving my self to avoid Bug bite
6) Same old smoke
7) Same old Stereo (mono speakers)
8) Same old spit marks ( though they were few in number when compared to the Greatest AVM Rajeswari)
9) I came across a new problem that day, the operator slept mid way during the show and I'd to resort to my complaining activity to make him awake and the carbon stick ( same old way of screening the movie right from 60's ) was troubling a lot and our man was running short of it.
And after all this I never dared to enter the rest room which my friend dared to experiment only to return back within an instant - I hope the readers will understand the plight.
Now I'd made a vow to myself that never in my life that I'll step into any other complex except Satyam / Sangam complex in chennai .
As I said it is a Dejavu,
