It is around 100 km from Bangalore on the way to Mysore. I like its historical value so much, I have visited it many times.
Must See: Sriranganathaswamy Temple, Bailey's Dungeon, Obelisk, War Memorial, Inman's Jail, Watergate, Mosque, Dariya Daulat Bagh - Tippu's summer palace, Ganjam - royal graveyard, Nimishamba Temple, Sangam, and the mighty fort. Right opposite Sriranganathaswamy Temple, there used to be Tippu's regular palace which is now in complete ruins. Its Inman Jail was so secretive that it took a full 100 years for the British after they conquered the city to find out about it. This place is held in high regard by historians as it is the place ruled by Tippu Sultan, one of handful native rulers with whom the English had reached agreements on equal footing. The Europeans respected Tippu Sultan so much that they addressed him "sahib" meaning "lord, " and following his heroic death in the battle in 1799, his corpse was granted full military honors(a rarity), and even today, the British Armed Forces honor him as one of the top 10 strongest enemies ever.
Spread over several kilometers, the place is very clean and beautiful.
Srirangapatna is essentially an island with the Cauvery dividing into two and flowing around this landmass and joining again down the line.
