Squash is one game that can reach a level of addiction. There are myths that this game is a little too demanding and cannot be played by anyone. Well, like any other game if you reach a level of expertise the game does become demanding. Too some extent it would be right to say that one needs to be fit to play squash, but that is not in the restrictive sense but as a caution if you start late in life.
Squash is played in a closed room between two players primarily. It is a game which is gaining immense popularity in India and since weather has little or no effect on the playing conditions it remains an all season sport for Indians.
Invented in Harrow in around 1830, the game of squash came about when the pupils discovered that if playing Rackets with a punctured ball, which was ''squashed'' on impact, a new game was created that involved a higher skill level and a far wider range of shots than Rackets, its predecessor. Squash is now an incredibly popular game worldwide, the World Squash Federation having 109 National Squash Associations as members. It is not an Olympic sport yet, but the WSF is strongly hoping that one day, sooner rather than later, it will achieve this prestige.
The game involves hitting the ball on a front wall and placing the ball using the deflections from the four walls of the room to keep the ball out of reach of your opponent. One cannot allow the ball to take two bounces on the floor when hit by an opponent.
What this results is that the game is played at a very fast pace with tonnes of adrenaline flowing. It is a social game and you will find players talking about the game and skills a lot.
As a beginner one needs to buy a decent racket that should cost between 750 Rs.-5000 Rs. A squash ball of Dunlop make having a single yellow dot or double yellow dot (Both costing around Rs. 100) and Yellow non-marking shoes (Ranging between 750-4500 Rs.) and other requirements. I suggest a beginner to wear eye protection glasses to ensure safety.
So play hard and have a ball, squash shall change your life forever.
