SpiceJet used to be my preferred airline between 2011 and 2013. But recently, I have had horrible experiences in my flights being cancelled with no notice or alternatives and in another case, my being refused to check in because because the security queue was too long with no sensible alternatives offered.
I would strongly recommend for anyone looking to travel domestically to use Indigo or Jet for travel as these are far far more reliable for travel and offer much better frequency and courteous service. Book SpiceJet but only with a Plan B and if you can, please avoid this airline.
Frequent Cancellations
SpiceJet is the most unreliable airline today that you cannot trust to run a route even a day ahead.
Me and my family were booked to fly from Tutucorin to Chennai in March 2015 and 1 week in advance, the flight was cancelled. The staff were not at all courteous in handling the cancellation and used a matter of fact tone. They refused to offer an alternative route from Madurai which I requested. I was forced to cancel the booking for a'30 working day delayed refund' and I had to make a fresh booking for the Madurai to Chennai route. One day before I was to fly the airline suddenly cancelled this route too after I had completed the online check-in and again cancellation for a'30 working day refund' was the only option forced on me. The call center offered me the explanation that they moved from winter to summer schedules and gave me an alternate to travel 1 week later. which was senseless of them.
After trying to be loyal to SpiceJet twice, I was left with a chunk of money short, waiting for a refund that was going to take 2 months. SpiceJet takes 30'working' days to process refunds and hold your money till the last moment.
Rules for convenience
SpiceJet chooses to create and enforce rules to their convenience, customer service and satisfaction being least on their priorities
In a separate incident, earlier in Feb 2015, I was to board a flight from Chennai to New Delhi and due to a diversion outside the airport, I reached the airport with 55 mins to boarding. The staff immediately imposed a rule that check-in time was now 1 hour in advance, even though my ticket stated 45 mins and when I argued, gave me the option to take the next flight which was 12 hours away in lieu. no compensation or even attempt to help us in that moment. I had to write off spicejet fare and book an alternative flight at the airport to reach my meeting.
