The 24th movie in the bond series, Spectre promised to bring back some action to the franchise after the relatively lacklustre Skyfall. However, the output has been a mixed bag and can be called a cut above average at best.
I understand, people's perspectives and expectations from a movie will vary. Some people loved the down-to-earth storyline in Skyfall and the fact that Bond was portrayed as a more humane character as opposed to older movies. But I beg to differ here - if I had to watch humane movies, I'd probably go and watch some war movies or documentaries. For me, Bond is all about gadgets, action and entertainment. I grew up watching Pierce Brosnan and that's what has defined 007 for me. So coming to Spectre, it does get a bit more entertaining than Skyfall as far as my opinions are concerned. There are elements from all previous movies, including Casino Royale and Skyfall. If you haven't watched the previous installments, you'd be left wondering what happened. The plot isn't strong enough though, the risk of a new agency taking over MI6 and starting a global espionage program can hardly be called a plot, so the story revolves around 007's attempts to save his organization, MI6 from the'agency' which is a nexus with the underworld.
There is a good deal of bang-bang and chase sequences and yes, exploding watches did make a comeback! Though the plot and the ending could have been better, Spectre doesn't disappoint overall.
