South Kitchen is a vegetarian self-service hotel that serves South Indian snacks. Visited this place last week after my cousin kept praising the food especially the chutney.
Location: The hotel is located in NR Colony, Basavanagudi(Bangalore). The hotel is on the road side so it is easy to locate. If you come in bike you will get parking space. We had to park our car about 2 blocks away and then we walked.
Menu The menu concept is similar to Thaza Thindi which is located in Jayanagar. Menu is simple and has about 6-7 items only. You so not get Dosa items here. It is known mainly for its soft idli's, crispy vada's and chutney. You get uppittu, sweet and kara bath. Their filter coffee is very good. The price of all the items is very less. Single vada and idli costs about rs15. All the items are made without onion and garlic.
I had idli, vada and coffee. The idli was hot and super soft. The vada's were very crispy. The chutney was good. It was very spicy. You could see the green chilly pieces in it. You can ask for extra chutney for free. The coffee was strong and good.
The hotel is not too big in size. It is self-service and there is not sitting place. People come here to have a quick snack and coffee so if it is crowded you will get space soon. Service is fast. All the staff were caps and the place is hygienic. All items have separate counters to avoid crowding at one place.
I enjoyed my idli vada though I personally did not find anything unique about the chutney everyone was talking about. I usually like mine with a little garlic so probably for others without onion and garlic it tastes good.
Would recommend it for its idli vada's and you will not be spending too much from your pocket.
