I totally recommend this camera over any DSLR in the same price bracket, they are a waste until you buy the intermediate and pro-level DSLRs.
I bought this camera, or infact I chose only to buy a mirrorless camera, for only one reason, the bulk of DSLR. I hate that bulk, feels like holding a cocunut in your hands, and it doesnt someone who is looking out for street photography. Now if I get all features of a dslr in a small handheld sized body, wouldnt it be great. Sony NEX 5R is exactly that. My friends own a Nikon D3200, D3100, Canon 550D but none of match this camera's capability. I took some of the stunning pictures with great RAW quality, or else if you are a casual user go for JPEGs and try on the filter effects, this camera has the most of them. I can hold onto this camera for 2hrs straight without any pain in my fingers, whereas half an hour lift of DSLR hurt my palm and forearm.
