I purchased the W995 in August and here are some observations, that are beyond the specifications that you will always find on the Sony Ericsson India web site.
I received the handset along the following:
1 GB MP3 player
2 years insurance
1-year warranty
mobile pouch
External JBL speaker(same form factor as the phone)
Standard accessories to connect to PC, Headphone etc.
Took a discount on the price by refusing the Jabra Bluetooth headset
About the features .
*The Delighters:
The GPS based navigation(application called "Navigator") works really well. Have tried in Bangalore city and over 3 trips I found that the maps are accurate, distances are exact and the directions near perfect(8/10). The Voice based instruction works well and is loud and clear in traffic to follow.'(give the system 5 min before GPS gets connected - you will hear a voice confirming that GPS came on/off)
Google maps locate everything and anything for you.
The camera gives great snaps in outdoor. and average for indoors, despite the great flash
Audio is terffic and along with the add on speaker that was delivered with the box, it is a pleasure to listen to music.
8GB memory can practically reduce 4 CDs in your car storage. Iif equipped, you can transmit the songs over a FM transmitter(use the 3.5 inch connector along with the FM transmitter to broadcast over your car radio).
Battery life if great - atleast 4 hours talktime is guaranteed
Battery charing is fast
BAttery indicators are accurate and consistent
The torch feature is a great one, as you can choose the duration of lighting. The light is bright and a great asset in dark spaces(e.g movie theater)
Shake control features work well and true. you can move the handset to chnge your music tracks or volume
Games are perfect in response and excitement.(i love the football one)
Keypad is tacky and gives a nice feel during use.
Slider mechanism is assuring and defnitive
Weight of the phone is just right for the pocket.
Upgrades from the internet are easy and works really well
Synchronisation of contacts, calendar etc with Outlook is simple and fast.
Wi-Fi is perfect to hook up to home networks
The bluetooth headset connection is easy and works right the first time and is 100% assuring that it works. much better than the Z550i I had previously/
The Disappointers
The display gets scratched easy - and deep at times.
It takes some effort to get a hold on the slider before it can be moved - you may have to smudge the glass.
The Volume keys are not easily felt, especially in dark
The Music menu comes up now and then on its own, fortunately the songs do not start off on their own!
The battery case has a flimsy latch to keep inplace and one is never sure if it was locked well
When the Speaker are plugged on
The Neutrals
The rotation of screen as you flip your display from vertical to horizontal is useful at times.
Stand at the back is no big deal.
GPS hogs battery and heats up the unit - but that is normal stuff.
The rest of the SONY Ericsson stuff - UI, Menu, build quality user considerations etc are all there.
Summary:
A great Phone, works reliably, no complaints or regrets, and is a good companion.
The price of 25 K seemed a tad high.right price would be 20K.
