Hi all

I bought this Sony Ericsson T630 on Feb 25th 2005. Bought it for 9000 with bill and all included. Never had any problems with it so far, except a few which are common with any mobile. Will be discussing all points about it in detail.

Pros:

1) The looks are very good. Mobiles come and go in different designs, but this is one of the best. So many times I have seen people ask me whether this is a video-cam mobile. I tell them it isn't. They think I'm pulling their legs.

2) Best mobile of it's time. Even today, if you want a phone with Bluetooth as well as IR, you would have to shell out atleast 10K. If this model is available, you won't get another with a lesser cost.

3) Sound recording is better than the competition. So are the themes. They look very good in this phone.

4) Once you get used to this mobile, you'll struggle to get used to another.

5) I have dropped it many times. Still goes on and on.

Cons:

1) Resale value is very low, you can as well throw away the phone. The T610 was a resounding success. But T630 failed to capitalise on its popularity.

2) 2MB of memory is very poor.

3) I had a problem with charging. It was the same trouble experienced by another reviewer for this very product called "sumebhattach". I'm pasting that problem since it was exactly the same.

Charging is a big problem. Initially it would get charged when switched off. Then, when off, the jack which is inserted into the phone had to be pushed up or pulled down to get the correct charging position. At that time, there were no hassles in charging it when switched on. Now, even when on, I still have to fight a tug of war with the jack to get the correct position (Quoted from review by sumebhattach)

4) After the first few months of using it, the 3, 6, 9 and spacebar keys had a slight problem. Would stop working in turns occasionally!!

5) Support provided by Sony Ericsson is pathetic!! When I had this problem with 3, 6, 9 etc, I went to dealer. Even though piece was in warranty, the bugger said the bill I produced was not sufficient. So I had to pay for the repair. And I feel he did NOTHING, since the very next day, the problem was still there. Since I live a busy life (night shifts), I adjusted to the problem!! But it's very bad work by SE personnel.

6) The following incident is the saddest: the death of the phone.

Recently there were heavy rains in Chennai. Though protected by raincoat, my mobile still got wet. And water got into the display.

Gave it for servicing, he serviced it and says they cleaned the phone, but they need to replace the display.

Display is not available in any showroom at Chennai. He needs to contact the Store at Delhi. It will take two weeks and another 2000 rs!! (Note: Resale value is probably much lesser).

So I brought the phone back home.

Now all my numbers / contacts etc are stored in phone memory!! No way I can access that information!!

I'd like to give this advice to all and sundry:

1) Please be careful with the phone. Do not store all your contacts / important messages in the phone. You never know.

2) Before spares become totally unavailable, try to sell the phone and go for something which has available spares. Because I cannot sell mine now.

The demise of the phone has left me real sad, and presently I am using a Nokia 3315 2nd hand. Probably after a few months I'll go for a more robust model, either a Nokia 6600 or a 6670.

Sony Ericsson you definitely are the best, but if you don't set your service centres / customer support proper, you'll be beaten out of the Indian market.

Thanks for this wonderful phone, which I'll retain forever (since nobody is buying it).

Regards,

Jacob.
