It's been a long time since, I wrote a review @ Mouthshut.
Sony DSC H50, I didn't made a decision to buy this camera overnight. It took me App. 3 long years to buy Sony DSC H50, you all might be astonished as how do I know that DSC H50 is going to be launched in 2008, that too App. three years ago. It was the H series, which I had started tracking and analyzing. I had an eye on H3, then shifted to H5, then to H7 and then to H9. Sony placed all these items at a very high cost. Somehow there were brands like Olympus, Canon and Nikon, which were into my consideration list due to their pricing.
The major plus point with Sony is the clarity, storage, mpeg coding, battery life & service warranty for 3 years. Mpeg recording will save more space while recording videos. Cost was the only factor, which deterred me in buying Sony products. You won't believe, till date in some of the Websites, H9 is carrying a high price tag than H50. I will not go into the copy cat mode to show all the features that Sony DSC H50 have in Mouthshut.
Even though there are many websites, which offer Sony DSC H50 near to Rs. 16, 000/- these pieces doesn't have Sony warranty tagged onto it. Whenever you buy any product, which you feel costly, should be backed up by the Warranty from Product Company. So, most of the websites you have to eliminate out of your buying process. Go in for shops or the company's own website for purchase, do heavy research before buying any product.
During H50 release Sony has unveiled H10 too, I had an eye on this camera too, but what it lacked was the Zoom capability. Believe me 15X works more than 10X. I had took a picture of a temple tower from almost 1/2 a Kilometer away from it. The sculptures, the small plants, which has grown in between, which was not visible, to naked eye were visible when I was viewing that in the image.
Like a SLR camera, almost most of the modes have been given for the user in a simplified manner. Before or after buying this camera, start learning about Aperture & Shutter speed control as these things would definitely help you in using this camera. There is a night mode facility, which will help you in taking pictures without even emitting a flash or @ 0 light you will get a pictures. But, this would look like a Black & White pic with grains, as you all might have seen Night Mode videos in Discovery or NGC Channels. But+ point is you don't have to wake up or disturb, but still you can take a picture. The video sound quality is okay, but whereas some of the counterparts have good Stereo capturing. There is one more facility called Smile Shutter, if turned on, looks in for facial reaction along with sound analyzer, and automatically clicks and saves pictures, when there is a smile or laugh at the subject's face. Would be good to use when you give the camera to old people who doesn't know how to use it.
This camera comes with a Same direction tilt 3" screen. It can be tilted in only one direction. Moreover there is a remote provided, through which you can take picture with zoom facilities & can use the remote for maneuvering pictures, during a slide show @ TV or System. In Aperture, Shutter & ISO modes, you need to have more stability in your hands, while shooting pictures. So, if you are a novice, use Automatic, Smile Shutter, Simple modes to shoot pictures.
Overall I am very happy with the performance of this camera. As it delivers 9.1 MP HD like images and near to HD quality video. Great for Nature photographers and those who are longing to buy an DSLR.
There was one shop in Chennai were, I have been told that they can give a Box Piece of DSC-H50 @ the rate of Rs. 18, 000/-+ Goodies, but no bill. So, I rejected that offer and went in for the full price Rs. 19, 990/- with warranty.
[To show the image clarity I have uploaded an image along with this review, download that and try to zoom and see the things, which are so crystal clear, as I mentioned in my review. My apologies, I had to resize the original file from 3 MB to 500 KB due to MS's restriction, due to which the expected results will vary]
