Sony CD Writer!!!
I am a person who knows assembling comps and I have done atleast 75 assemblies till date. The irony here was that I myself didnt have a decent comp, with a writer. Everytime I used to buy writers, my customers always wanted either LG or Samsung because of their pricing. I, on the other had always recommended Sony Writer as I thought it was simply the best! Atlast, the day came when I had enough money to buy my own computer!!! ...And pretty obvoiusly I bought the SONY WRITER!
Believe Me!!!...Thats the best decision I ever took. Even my budget was constrained and even I was tempted to go in for the other brands...but I stuck to my choice of SONY and I havent regretted it.
Firstly, ill talk about the entire package. I got a Writer, a Sony CDRW Disc, a Sony CD-R disc and the bundle also came with Nero 6. The installation was simple and easy. Next came the performance.
Performance-wise, the writer is amazing! I have no idea how many CDs I have written till date, but I am definitely sure it exceeds 1000!! It takes approximately 2 minutes to write a full 700 MB CD. I have one CD which I still use for small backups, that I have written over 50 times!!! The multisession mode allows me to do this effortlessly and there have been no read / write errors! The buffer underrun protection technology in this drive was unheard of when I bought my writer. It reduces the chances of write-errors when there is buffer underrun. This is simply amazing as I have saved many CDs by avoiding errors while writing. It has a speed rating of 52X-32X-52X for Write - Re-Write - Read respectively. It has this amazing capability to determine what write speed is best for the storage media inserted. Samsung CDRWs are available at a rewrite speed of 10X but this writer writes these at 12 X!!!
Next comes the entire presentation of the Writer. It has a simple single button interface with a front panel made of plastic. The body is metallic. The tray slides in and out smoothly, without having to push it or pull it! Believe me.. You will know what I am talking about if u have had a Samsung drive!!! Neither does the tray jam while ejecting, nor does it need any lubrication. Even till date, the Writer has functioned without a glitch.
Finally, the software issues. It was autodetected by the motherboard (BIOS)... and had no problems in Windows XP's native CD writing utility. I have had no problems with drivers and driver updates.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this CD Writer to anybody who wants to buy one. I am thinking about getting myself a SONY DVD Writer, but I am waiting for the prices to come down a little further (hopefully). To put it in one word..this CD Writer is AWESOME
