During my childhood I used to hear from my father that SONY was the synonym of High Quality. He told me while you pay more for SONY- you get high Quality, Robustness, and Durability. It was true for all SONY products starting from Audio/Video Tapes, music players, and television until SONY started making smart televisions. I myself was such a big admirer and advocate of SONY products that I bought 3 televisions(CRT to LED), 2 Cameras, 2 home theaters from SONY but now time as well as opinion has changed.
Hopefully this review will open up the eyes of buyers as well as SONY officials to do something good to bring our confidence bank in SONY.
This review is primarily for serious quality deterioration in SONY LED televisions also observed and experienced personally over a period especially from when SONY started making smart LED televisions. SONY televisions(Smart- FHD/4k/Curved etc) are 20-30% more expensive from their counterparts in Samsung and Panasonic.
Though the SONY picture quality is slightly better than Samsung or Panasonic, but the robustness of LED panel itself and other ports have been significantly downgraded. There are more than 5 cases in my knowledge and 1 case that I have personally experienced that SONY Smart televisions 4k / FHD / Curved etc. start giving troubles in 1.5 to 2 years. Major problems Observed are- multiple vertical lines on LED panel, horizontal lines, Blurred images, Color deterioration, Blank screen, USB ports stopped working, HDMI ports stopped working, Sound problems and what not.
A TV for which you are already paying 20-30% more and in just 1.5 to 2 yrs. if you have to pay again 20-30% of your TV cost to fix various problems, it is a serious issue.
In my case, I had bought a SONY TV of 58, 000/- while I could have got same TV with similar features in Samsung and Panasonic by paying 47000/-. Just after 2 years we observed vertical lines and when SONY engineer came to fix, he advised total expense of 22000/- to change the panel. So my current TV becomes of 80000/- which was not a worth for just having a name SONY on my TV.
So guyz, make a right decision if it is worth buying costliest TV which starts giving problems in 1.5 to 2 years and demands hefty amount to get fixed or buy the other TVs in competition with equal quality as well as robust, Yes the problems can occur in other televisions too but in that case you are not paying 20-30% premium while the picture quality is almost same.
Neutral web reference on SONY Bravia complaints(Not expected for a TV which is costliest in the market- https://complaintboard.in/complaints-reviews/sony-bravia-led-tv-l100408.html
PS- I took reference of Samsung and Panasonic as these are real next competitors of SONY TV.
