Now I know that this section is aimed at soccer in general but I also know that a lot of people in India are interested in Liverpool Football Club. I would just like to write a piece on the success of last season and my views for the coming season.
Being an avid follower of Liverpool Football Club I would like to take this opportunity to give my insight on what I thought of last seasons success and what I predict for the future. Many football fans have praised the club on what we did last year and that has been well appreciated. Even Man Utd fans have placed messages on the club website saying how surprised they were at how well we did and how they are going to be watching over their shoulders in the coming season.
My view is different. Even though we finished 3rd in the league last year and won three trophies I just cannot see us or Arsenal breaking the stranglehold that Man Utd have on the Premiership. This has been backed up even more by the signings of Van Nistelrooy and Veron. Who else can afford top splash that kind of money out on two players in this country. It is all down to success and Man Utd have had it year in year out.
The main reason behind being able to spend all of this money is due to a great business side of the club as well as the financial benefits from the footballing side. Champions League football every year contributes to this and we are finally able to partake in that competition this year. It doesn't mean we will earn loads of money though as we have to be a success in that competition first.
The one thing I am pretty sure about this year though is that we will finish second best in the Premiership. I am not sure of Arsenal's challenge this year. They may have bought some quality players but I don't believe they have as much strength in depth as we have. A lot of people will critiscise me for saying this as we have only signed John Arne Riise from Monaco, but I believe we already have the squad in place to do some serious damage.
I also believe that Leeds will make a strong attempt this year but I think it will fade later in the season due to the very young average age that their squad posesses.
I would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate the team on their efforts last year and wish them luck for the coming season, Cheers,
Darren
