Smita Patil ------ the dark charmer , the aesthetic artist, who had the talent, good features, naturally tanned beauty , distictive personality and poignant expressions to make your heart wrench with pain and emotions....She made us cry and almost made the skin out of her acted charachters in the films like mandi, hadsa and bazaar remember the selling and purchasing in baazar.

She was a leading actress of the 70s and 80s cinema, acted in several movies in hindi and marathi. She had an unconventional beauty like the black charmer or the black magic that wont spare you coming from the caves of the balan and an arresting screen presence to glue you to the screen .

Born 1955 and completed her abode on the earth 1986.(1955-1986).she died in 1986 due to complications during the birth of her son. many of her films released years after her death which he had finished but were not released de to the distribution rights etc.

She had worked in several films including the commercial bollywood moveis and the parallel cinema with the reputed directors like Shyam benegal, Govind nahlani and Mrinal sen.

Smita Patil was also involved in the women's rights activist. Plesae note that she was an alumna of the Film and television instituite of india, pune. She was honoured with the National Award for 'Best Actress' for her performance in the hindi film category for the movie BHUMIKA. She has left as an undying symbol of the New Wave cinema in India.

Smita Patil belonged to the shabana azmi generation and is/was strongly associated with a radically political cinema of the 1970s. In her films, her usually acted out persona / character often represented intelligent femininity that stood in relief against the conventional background of male-dominated cinema specially in the films like Bhumika Umbartha, and Bazaar. She has also done commercial films wherein her glamorous roles reveal the permeable boundaries between 'serious' cinema and 'Bollywood' in the Hindi film industry (films like Shakti and Namak Halaal).
