I had my Ceramic braces for protruding teeth in November 2011 by Dr.Murugesan. The treatment tenure according to Dr.Murugesan would be 18 months maximum. I paid half the treatment cost upfront and the rest in installments during the periodic visits. And today I've completed 3 years and 4 months with braces on and the result is there to see in the picture.
My teeth is still not aligned properly and left with spaces. And Dr.Murugesan has given up on me saying with a great arrogance that only this much can be done. If you want a perfect finish you need to go for another type of treatment. Heavily disappointed and stressed, I had to go for a second opinion from a leading Orthodontist in town. And here's what a sitting with him revealed.
1) Dr.Murugesan had no clear planning on the job to be done on my teeth and hence the delay.
2) Appointments were far too spaced out(40 to 45 days)
3) Incorrect understanding of the ceramic braces and hence the incompetent job.
4) And I was not given ceramic brackets but the more brittle and cheap plastic ones. How bad! After having invested 3+ years with braces, I feel completely cheated with the kind of outcome and arrogant treatment meted out there. Now with another dentist doing the job I realise how bad the quality of treatment by Smile Garden was.
1) Treatment was painful, with Dr.Murugesan hardly understanding the sensitivity of the patient. He would use brute force during the tightening of braces, often hurting my lips and nose in the process. And hardly shows any regret. I think this is very bad for today's dentist.
2) He refuses to replace the ligatures(See picture: the transparent band that encloses the brackets). It turns yellow after a few days due to the food, and looks bad on the smile. And the purpose of choosing ceramic braces, less visibility, is not served if it looks yellowish and ugly. Dr.Murugesan would often replace them only every 2 visits(cost cutting may be). The one you find in the picture is 4 months old. Forget the looks; look at the kind of negligence the dentist has for the oral hygiene of the patients!?
I think there should be some authority to address the patients who get cheated by doctors like this. I'm already working on taking this legally and in all possible forums.
I hope my experience will be of use and I suggest people to do a lot of research before landing up at the dentists/doctors before any treatment. And while at the dentists', ask as many questions and clear yourself of any doubts, which most don't do. It wouldn't hurt to evaluate them sooner than regret later.
