Technically, this movie is pretty awesome. I found the first half of the movie pretty mesmerizing. However, the second half was disappointing and reminded me of a standard bollywood flick -- gangsters, hero, heroine and vendetta. Actually the tale of the underdog is not a new theme for bollywood movies.
Cinematography is par excellence -- the scene in the beginning with the kids running through the slums with Rahman's uplifting score in the background is definitely a cinematic achievement.Acting is one of the highlights as well as the sad points in this movie, and is bad across the board. Dev Patel has a constant jaw open expression throughout the movie.
Frieda Pinto is just OK. Anil Kapoor is not convincing. But the kids are brilliant and deserve all the accolades. Frankly the movie starts to lose its soul when the kids grow up and become adults. All in all it's worth a watch -- it's won 8 oscars now so I guess that makes it more marketable.
