I saw this movie last night and after watching it I was deeply moved. "Slumdog Millionaire" is an elecfying Indian movie. It's a movie that show, and depict the harshness of Indiana's poverty, and shame.
However, through all of the atrocites of child explotation, and a vivid picture of India's underground syndicate of master criminals "Slumdog Millionare manages to speak loud with its heartfelt message of over coming great odds.
"Slumdog Millionare" is a movie of wide portortions of intense drama, and on the edge of your seat action and brilliant acting by the cast and delivered with emotion, wit, charm, and excellent dramatic gut renching performances. Director and writers Danny Boyle Loveleen Tandan (co-director: India)Writer Simon Beaufoy (screenplay) and Vikas Swarup (novel) delivers powerful blows of excellent direction as they vividly shows India's raw images of poverty, crime, shame and very good action scenes. India's version of Hip-Hop music and dance blooms blissfully in this capturvating motion picture.
The movie opens with a young man in his early twenties held in Police custody, and going through a series interogation, questioning, and torture after getting arrested and accused of cheating on the weekly game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionare". The young man is beaten, tortured and forced to confess to cheating on the game show. While in custody Jamal the young man in custod speaks of his early childhood of a slum life, and poverty on the streets of India. Jamal speaks of his brother as they lived, and saw the worst forms of India's slumlife and explotation of young children. Jamal recalls when he, and his brother where two street survivors who find their way into the hands of a ruthless pimp and street hustler who preys on children, by forcing them into prositition, and begging. The hustler's game is to give false hopes of stardom to helpless children when telling them they will eventually become professonal singers, and get rich. His ruthless scheme esclates when he calls a child to sing. The child is then put to sleep, and his eyes are burned out, causing permanent blindless. For this thoughtless pimp blind children bring bigger profits when begging on the streets and the young girls are sold into prosititution. When Jamal and his little brother are called to sing Jamal out smarts the pimp and his henchman, tossing acid on them and escapeing. As years pass Jamal and his brother separate leads lives of survival, and crime on the streets. Jamal becomes a contestant on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire taking the audiences by storm with his ingenius wit, winning every game to its ultimate quest of becoming a millionare. His brother gets involved with a gang of syndicate criminals. As I mentioned earlier "Slumdog Millionare" is an excellent movie that's encompassed with extreme graphic violence, and a grim look at Indian cultrue. Acting by the cast is great, along with an excellent music score, and dance chorography. The storyline , and on location footage of India is surperbly done. Overall "Slumdog Millionare" is a cultrually stimulating motion picture that's worth watching. Bravo to its many achievements with writing, and direction, and a grand slam dunk of an Oscar win for best picture of the year.
