How I encountered Skype.
Skype.... well yet another website. This was my reaction when I first heard about it.
At one of our monthly meetings my boss happend to tell us about, how small organizations who started with a handful of people & very few resources have managed to reach the top not just by chance but by commitment, dedication & the passion to make a mark. Thats what SKYPE was all about to me at the first instance.
One of the examples given was that they used bean bags & laptops to carry out their daily activities - maybe due to lack of resouces, lack of space or maybe they didnt have that kind of manpower.
WOW...!! Work lazing around on a bean bag. Doze off in a cozy corner of a lobby. This idea fascinated me. At first I wished if we could get the same facilites. Do away with the desktops & the desks as well.
Then I chanced upon the link https://share.skype.com/sites/en/2005/11/staff_on_beanbags.html when I searched for SKYPE in a search engine. Hey they indeed used bean bags. [see pic below] Was about to pack my bag & head for the sky... er... Skype. Thats when I chanced upon this video you just saw above. This is when I decided to stay back here in India. LOL.
What can you do using Skype.
Skype is just three years old & has been provding wonderful IM service.
Call anyone else using Skype, anywhere in the world.
See who you are talking to with video calls.
Chat with one person or have a group chat with up to 100 people at the same time.
Conference calling with up to four other people at the same time.
Send files and photos to each other easily.
Search the web with the Google Toolbar (optional install).
These were the features that you can use for free.
Well you pay a little and get the following services.
Call ordinary phones and mobiles at pretty cheap rates per minute, with no monthly fee.
Get a SkypeIn number, so that people using ordinary phones can call you directly on Skype.
Skype Voicemail takes the messages when you can't take calls.
Skype SMS lets you get in touch with friends instantly when they're not online.
Have just downloaded the software so will let you know about the messenger service once I start using it. Hope its works wonders for me the way it has been for other MS members who have rated it so high.
Hope SKYPE is not just HYPE.
Till then keep checking...
