The Story-

Dana Evans is a fiery television journalist. After covering the war in Sarajevo, she is back in US. She has adopted a little orphan boy called Kemal.

Here, ‘The Winthrop Tragedy’draws her attention. In the span of one year, five members of a family die in different parts of the world. The Winthrop Family was a rich, reputed business family. They were well known as philanthropic, kind, nice people. Dana suspects that the five deaths are interlinked and that there is a conspiracy behind the Winthrop Tragedy.

Thus, she starts her mission to find out the ‘Truth’ behind the five seemingly unsuspicious deaths.

Initially, nobody is ready to believe her and she is called ‘Chicken Little’.

But Dana doesn’t budge; she goes on, believing what her gut feeling is telling her.

But…is there really a conspiracy? Or is it mere coincidence? Were all the Winthrop’s as nice as they were believed to be?

Dana has to start from scratch and go on looking for evidence, talking to concerned persons, visiting various places, surfing for hours on the Net, analyzing the collected data and reach to some conclusion….

Will she be successful in solving the murder mystery? Or will she invite danger upon her own life?

The character of Dana Evans is well itched- a smart, intelligent journalist who conducts her investigation with determination and persistence.

Other characters are also convincing.

Though the story revolves around the Winthrop Case, there is also an emotional angle to it. Dana has adopted littleKemal - a war orphan who has lost his one arm. Kemal struggles to rebuild his life and Dana has to face the challenge of being the perfect mother to a difficult kid. The relationship between Dana and Kemal is touching, and character of Kemal is adorable.

Reading this book is like putting all the pieces together to solve an interesting Jigsaw Puzzle. You will find yourself guessing, thinking, and predicting as the protagonist Dana goes on searching for truth.

Sheldon introduces unexpected twists and turns to the story, but he never lets the story go haywire, and that is the core strength of this book.

Sydney Sheldon has been writing since decades. But this noel is more contemporary than his other work. The story also throws light on the growing importance of Internet in crime detection as Dana does most of her preliminary research on the World Wide Web.

On the flip side, the story of Dana’s boyfriend Jeff and his ex-wife was completely unnecessary, as it is not at all connected to the main plot. Also, the plot gets way too complicated in the end. But, these flaws can be ignored.
