Some of the critics might not agree with the Subject Line and keep praising Ayushman Khurrana for his Desi, Opportunity to laugh, one time watch and back to basics kind of movie making.
I do like him as an actor but the sometime a get a reflection of Mini Aamir Khan in his movie making which leaves very little scope for directors to be creative and get an out of the box image for mentioned actor. His act feels like ruling the movie and rest of the things seems like compromised. Which sometime leads to confusion and at the end of the movie you keep thinking whether you recommend it to someone or not. Then I end up saying "It's a onetime watch, so go and have a mini laughter dose & relax in the hall.
Let us first talk about the Plot. Being Gay or other side has been talk of the world for so many years, some of the movies has dealt with it in serious manner and some will try to tickle your funny bone. Here is the first problem with this piece of art. The movie tries to mix laughter and drama both which ultimately leads to a confusion. Probably it is because we as Indian want to see every genre in a single movie. Another week point is that movie fails to validate that "Gay Love" and "Love" are both "Love". It tries hard but fails.
Coming to the acting part. The movie is about Gay and not about being "Girlish Gay", even after having a strong role Ayushman and the team chose to play a role which is by nature and expressions a bit "girlish". Is it necessary that in gay relationship one of the partner to sound like girls? If yes than it's is basically depicting the same kind of relationship between a girl and boy. So on acting point og view Ayushman was average. Jitender was good and his dialogue delivery was confident. In his form Bollywood has got a "method comedian". Gajraj Rao was excellent so as Neena Gupta.
The second seems like unplanned and I started getting confused if I was watching a Yash Chopra Film. Even though it is a less than 120 minutes movie, second half is heavy. So finally it is a onetime watch and some of the sequences were very easily guessable. You may just go and see it if you get a 112 Rs. ticket in morning show as I got.
