On Sunday we had to suddenly buy some gifts so we went to Shoppers Stop on Linking Road in Bandra, as it was on our way. Years ago when Shoppers Stop had first opened in Andheri, it was quite a good store and that is what I remembered.
We looked for all the gifts in the household section. There was not too much variety and everything was grossly over priced but we had to buy for immediate gifting and eventually we selected our items. The sales assistants were helpful and polite.
After selecting our items, they gave us a "chitti" and told us to pay at the cashiers on the ground floor. When we went there, we saw an endless queue but again having no choice, we stood in the line patiently.
It turned out there was only one cashier that day, who also had to do the packing and was consequently very slow. Some other people in the queue asked a manager lurking nearby to open another cash counter or to help out the existing cashier. The manager said he was not allowed to help out but offered to find another cashier. Needless to say he never arrived.
About 20 minutes later, we finally paid for our goods. Forget about the gift wrapping, there were 10 people in that queue alone. We now had to go down and collect our wares. Now for the fun part. As we left the store, the security people demanded to see our bag. It turned out that the cashier had not removed the security tags from our items. The person at the security counter could not even find the security tags on our items. More time wasted, we finally found the blessed tags and got them removed.
For reasons not hard to fathom, I will not be patronizing Shoppers Stop ever again.
