I believe the greatest escape from our busy lives and to spend time with our beloved ones is traveling. Who doesn’t like to visit new places, seeing a new culture, tasting different types of Food Last December we were in Meghalaya. The money we spend on this 5 days trip to Meghalaya is worth for the memories and the experiences we had.

Our first destination was Umiam lake and we can never forget the view of this lake. Such a beautiful and serene place with the purest water. Perfect start of the trip. They also have picnic spot along this lakeside. When we went at that time there were many students who were enjoying their picnic with cooking, fun games, music, and dance. The beauty of the lake did bring peace to mind. With a happy face and free mind, we left the place to our next destination Shillong peak. For a while, we thought we were standing in clouds as clouds were passing through us and it was a wonderful feeling. Maybe that's why they named the state as Meghalaya - Abode of clouds. And the view from this peak is perfect for landscape image with clouds, mountains, and greenery.

Next, in our list, we had Elephant falls, Nohkalikai Falls and Seven sister falls. Though when we went there were no much water but has breathtaking views. Little Hiking is required to reach the falls, just say overall we had 10000+ steps(thanks to fitness apps) while visiting these falls. In elephant falls there is a shop which rent Khasi attire for 50 bucks which we can wear and take pictures.

Next, we went to Mawsmai Caves. It was my first visit to caves and I was full on excited to see and this place did not disappoint me at all. It will take 30 min to come out of caves and it had narrowest ways, we need to squeeze-in to pass through and go ahead. We need to be careful with our heads as it had sharpest edges on top. One more thing which I need to appreciate here is the way they maintained the way while entering and exit the caves. Entire way is covered with plants where sunlight cannot peek in and if you are crazy for photography then this is the best place you can have.

Our next stop was Eco park and we went there by sunset time. This park has a viewpoint and being a fan of sunset views I sat down there enjoying the view. I heard this place is more beautiful during the monsoon season as we can see many waterfalls from there.

Next was my favorite place during an entire journey which is Dawki(Umngot) river. Which is in the border between India and Bangladesh. The moment you see the river you will fall in love with that magnificent view with crystal clear water. There we went for boating they charge depending on the time that we want to spent and we can also halt the boat at pebbles and can take memorable pictures.

From Dawki we went to Mawlynnong Village which is 1-hour drive on hill roads. Once you enter the village you can see only cleanliness and houses with beautiful gardens. I really liked the way they beautified their houses with flowers and greenery. There is not even a single paper or dust was there on roads and people there were removing plant debris also immediately. It is a proper village where you can see villagers in traditional Khasi attire. If you really want to experience village life then it is your best destination. In that village, they built a tree house which gives a magnificent view to the entire village. They were also selling handicrafts at reasonable prices. With a lot of oxygen in our body, we moved to our next destination.

Living root bridge - to reach there we need to walk for 15 min to reach there and you will be surprised with the view. There you can see the bridge to cross the river which actually formed with roots of two trees.

Last day of our trip we spent in Shillong, we went to Donbosco museum which took 1 and half hour to cover everything, airforce museum, golf course and park for evening walk with boat rides and we spent evening in Police bazar where you can see different varieties of shawls, sweaters, and boots for very lower prices with the best quality.

So this is our trip to Meghalaya…:)
