I happened to visit Bangkok on for official tour in first week of June 2006 and this time I was booked in Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok. This hotel, as the name says, is a part of Sheraton group and a member of Starwood hotels. I had asked for hotel car pick-up from Bangkok airport. I was really pleased to see a sleek brand new Mercedese S class which came to pick me up. The ride from airport to the hotel is about 30-35 mins depending on traffic conditions. The hotel is centrally located in the busy commercial area of Sukhumvit. This is also easily accessible from BTS Sky train station Asok, only walking distance. Being a Starwood Preferred Guest, I was accomodated on 28th floor and I tell you the view was really grand. I could see the entire city line of Bangkok from the huge glass wall window. The room was very nice and spacious with a king size bed, workstation, private bar, wardrobe etc. The bathroom and toilet needs a special mention not only for the cleanliness but also for the decor and accessories provided. Truly luxurious and also good for business travellers. The Orchid Cafe serves excellent breakfast with huge variety of food selection. I could not try other restaurants / pub in this hotel as most of the time I had my lunch and dinner outside in the city. Once you come out of the hotel, you can take stroll at around Sukhumvit and you can find all the things you want to see and buy. There are shopping centers, street-side stalls, tailors, medical shops, massage parlours, small restaurants including speciality Indian restaurants etc. etc. Highly recommended if you could spend about US$200/night of stay.
