I have watched this movie a number of times and till date its my best movie ever. The main cast is Tim Robins and Morgan Freeman and the story is of how Andy Dufresne (Tim Robins) is wrongly accused for murdering his wife. Andy is sentenced for life in prison and then the story goes on to show you how he manages his new life and then how he escapes.
As one of the lines of the movie says ''Some birds are just not meant to be caged'' The title of this movie does not sound interesting and I do not want to write a detailed review about it cause then it spoils the whole story. I cannot describe how good this movie is. It will most likely end up being your best movie ever if your a serious movie lover; and after you watch it; it will become a part of your life.
You will want to watch it over and over but not frequently. Consider that you have kept a day for watching the movie once a month; you will end up waiting for that day to come sooner because this movie showcases an entire life;a life you will feel so good about even though it was in prison.
This movie is nothing like those boring prison movies you may have watched before but it requires you to listen to every word of the dialog to fully understand whats going on. I just cannot imagine the mindest of the Director (Frank Darabont) or what was in him when he was scripting this movie and the ideas for his plot.
I will welcome any M2M views saying that this movie brought a tear to your eye in the end. This movie does not showcase depression; well it does in a small way but you forget about it when the good things happen. Do not watch this movie on HBO or Star Movies. Those stupid commercials ruin everything. A good quality VHS tape of this movie is all you will need; even better would be a DVD which you can buy from Amazon. It is very difficult to find this movie in a video library. I guess the only library to have this movie in Bangalore would be Habitat.
