So why one star? Lets talk about what was good first.
Surgery: I think that went well. Its only been a few days so I cannot say with full confidence. So far it seems ok. Only years down the line will be the true test of how good it really was. That is why I am giving the one star as that part seems ok.(fingers crossed)
I took away second star for cleanliness. I think they can do much better with basic cleanliness and hygiene. Cleaning the floors 100 times a day is not cleanliness. The bathrooms, commode, the tap(faucets), the plastic mug in the bathroom were filthy(see the images). The fridge had mold growing in the shelves and door(see images), the water cooler probably was never cleaned thoroughly(see images). The food would come in the bowls that were probably just ran through water. Even the tea thermos were just reused between customers without cleaning. Basic hygiene is expected when you sign up into a hospital of this reputation. Let me rephrase, basic hygiene is expected - especially at a hospital. The first room we were allotted had a strong pee smell - just like it was at the ground floor near the temple too. We have move into another room.
Cafe: Tables were not cleaned, they were sticky just like the floor. The tea cups were filthy and the wash basin(sink) there was super dirty.
I took away third start for extremely unprofessional and poor management: Short staffed, overworked and tired staff. They could not attend all the patients and so we would have to wait for a long time before someone would come to help. Although they were nice and helpful whenever they could but I don't blame them for being able to attend if management keep just 2 people for 16 patients.
I took away the fourth star for the facilities and administration:
Parking: none available for patients or visitors.
Elevator: Always too full. I have climbed to 6th floor up and down to save time. You will be waiting in line forever.
Room: The bell was not working so they gave us another bell which was the same sound as the temporary bell in other rooms. so if someone else would ring a bell, we would hear it and the nurse or he staff will go room to room asking where the bell rang from? Each time it would wake up my mom. The fridge shelf was broken and so my salad bowl fell and broke and I had no lunch.(could not eat their food). The television did not ever work properly.
Administration: Mediclaim dept was just completely in disarray. No one replies to your calls. They will give make you runaround for paperwork. No one will tell you if your insurance got approved. There is no organized process of doing the work in any department. Same with billing and admissions. We were made to wait 2 hours on the day of surgery before they admitted us. So over all administration is really really bad and unprofessional.
I took away the fifth star because of the bedside manners and patient care: The doc who was suppose to do surgery on my mom, never even met her before or after the surgery that day. We saw him the next day. I think that is serious lack of bedside manners. A patient needs to be assured that the doctor she signed up and trusts is the one who will be there for the surgery.
Patient Care: My mom could not eat because of the antibiotics or some painkillers that gave her bad nausea. I requested to replace her food with milk and juices. I was told that they can't do and it would be chargeable. Shouldn't that be a part of their responsibility to make sure the patient is get the right nutrition after the surgery as long as the patient is in their care? I had to put up a fight to finally get the milk instead of the veg meal. Arghhh!
So, do I recommend? The answer is NO. However, since their success rate of surgery is high, people will be drawn to this place. I get that. I only hope they would fix these problems to make a world class hospital. Not sure if anyone at the hospital quality team cares because no matter what, they will keep getting patients. Not everybody will write a review on google so they don't have much to lose.
