Shaapit - the cursed
Well, please pardon me if this review didnt come up to your expectations, as I am writing review after much time. Today I watched Shaapit - first day first show, and my initial verdict is - Watchable once for scares. Although there are loopholes in the story and filming, but the film does well on spookey part.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before going, please empty your brains outside, and please dont try to find any logics, just sit back and relax, and let the movie takes you to the new world of horror and beware of audience, they can make fun of the movie. (My bad luck, I got such crowd!)
Going on to the plot, well, plot consists of a very old concept of curse - Curse given to the mighty king and for all his generations. Here the curse is given by an Acharya to the king because his brother tries to rape Acharya's daughter, and as a result she killed herself. Now, then there's a love story (Obviously as this is a Vikram Bhatt movie!). Our guy, the newcomer Aditya Narayan (Aman) loves Shweta Agarwal (Kaaya), but Kaaya belongs to the king's family is automatically cursed. She can't marry, or she will die, if she tries. So, because of Love Aman takes a pledge to broke the curse, and in this a professor Pashupati (Rahul Dev) and his friend (Shubh Joshi) helps him. He had to find the bad soul's last remains who is always behind the girl, so that he can destroy it.
Regarding the acting part, Aditya is good, although he needs some practice but being a first film he is much much better than Harman Baweja. There is not much to do for the heroine Shweta, and she is okay. Rahul Dev is good, and he played the role of supernatural liking-researcher professor Pashupati very well. Rest is all what required to continue the script.
Talking of music, I can assure one thing, whatever is the traeatment of a Vikram Bhatt movie, whatever is the plot - good or bad, but music is always promising. Here also, the music did well. All the songs are good, having a spiritual feel to them. Chirantan Bhatt did a great job, and the voices are given by the very own Aditya Narayan and supported by Najam Sheraz, Shreya Ghoshal, Suzanne D'mello, Jaspreet Kohli, Hamza Farouqui, Chirantan Bhatt and Sunidhi Chauhan. Worth listening are 'Kabhi na Kabhi', 'Hayaati" and 'Tere Bina'. Background score is great and creates the spook. The cries of the bad soul is very well managed in the movie.
Now, let's talk about loopholes. Well there are some, the biggest one is the scene where the dancers are performing in front of mighty Kings. The song is 'Hayaati' and I didnt get howcome the Arabic-music is playing in front of the indian kings, and then the dancers are wearing modern outfits, that doesnt suited to the timeline of the plot. Special effects are again not upto the mark, although the Water-Palace is shown beautifully, it looks like Hogwarts School of Harry Potter films. It is surrounded by water and comparing all other effects, this was very well managed. Climax part will also come in the loophole, the breaking of barrycade which is preventing the water is picturised using special effect. That water inflow movement effect is not good.
I will rate the movie as 3/5. Shaapit - Take it or Leave it.. I think take once, as certainly this movie worth one view at cinema halls only.
