Okay, so this place is hardly a 10 minute terrible walking distance away from where I stay. Located in Saket on the main road towards Max Hospital, Select City Walk is a fine location that provides convenience to people living in South Delhi. Even for people who belong to other parts of the city, it is a destination to spend a nice and eventful day.
I wouldn't say its a perfect idea of spending a day for everyone; but has its fair share of luring positives that give me an excuse to visit the p'a'lace whenever I have nothing else to do. Here I list down why I consider Select City Walk Mall to be the best mall in South Delhi:
Decorum: The first impression that you get once inside the mall is a very positive one. It is so well maintained that it can be easily compared to international standards. It is very well lit, and with its sparkling clean floors, it gives an enthusiastic feel to people who come after a tiring week.
Shopping facilities: I am certainly no shopaholic. In fact, it is an activity that I invariably ignore for reasons of my own. However, for majority of ladies and for some fortunate, on-the-safe-side gentleman, they would find it a wonderful place to apply or give away their time, depending on whichever way you look at it.
The mall provides almost all the famous brand of accessories that brand fanatics would love to lay their hands on. I cannot list all the showrooms here - but I can give a try. There's Van Huesen and Wills Lifestyle for excellent shirts and ties and Carbon for ladies who get a high after watching diamonds, if only as window shopping material. Then there are Pantaloons, Lee Cooper, Fab India, Liliput for Children and United Colors of Benetton. There is also a Shehnaz Hussain showroom for people who like to maaro their feet at the axe by an innocent purchase of highly expensive creams at their own highly possible risk!
For unfortunate friends, husbands, and boyfriends who don't even have leftover interests in shopping, all is not lost still.. They often give each other good company, making small talks by leaning on the strongly reliable railings in front of the showrooms; or by tidying up their selves in any of the restrooms that are just about 100 metres from every other, no matter whichever part of the mall you find yourself in.
For people who are involved in reading, there's the Crossword bookstore that keeps a variety of books, including all the latest releases. Additionally, there's also a Stationary section within, for kids who can select from different designs of pencils, notepads and other things of their use. It also has a separate section where VCDs and DVDs of famous films are lined up. However, rather than buying DVDs from a store that specialises in books, people can opt for going to the Planet M store that is located on the first floor of the building. The latter contains a huge collection of films of all generations.
Food: There are different food outlets where you can have a proper meal. The most famous one is the Food Court, a place where you need to pay money to get a food token first and then go for your preferences from a variety of food stalls. They offer food ranging from North Indian thali to Chinese; from Italian Pasta to South Indian. Every kind of delicacy is available to awaken your taste buds.
Apart from the Food Court, there's Coffee Bean on the Ground floor, Barista and Sushi on the second floor, and Geoffrey's and The Punjab Grill on the top floor. Behind the mall, there are many other outlets that have recently become favourites of many people - Pizza Hut, KFC and Moti Mahal among several others.
Multiplex: For film buffs, this can be an ideal place because of the presence of PVR Cinemas in the mall. The inside of the multiplex is very well maintained; and the theatre itself provides a unique movie watching experience, accompanied with very comfortable cushion seats and few sofas for the Gold Class.
Two other malls: There are the Metropolitan and DLF Saket malls, just next to the one under discussion, that are fascinating places to be in. Their presence in the vicinity ensures that you never get bored or get enough of the place.
Water fountains: If you have no intention of roaming or going in the mall, you can sit and watch the beautiful riot of water fountains that are at display merely 20 metres ahead of the main entry. That is a famous hangout region of people of all ages, more especially children. Sitting amid a cool, pleasant breeze in the open does relax the senses. Here the management has set up the exterior of the place in a way to ensure exactly that.
Despite its alluring positives, there may be some reasons why people may not actually prefer to go to this place. The high price is the main reason. No matter whatever accesory you purchase, it is sold at a cost that would be at least 25% higher than its price in other parts of Delhi.
The inflation factor is also evident while purchasing movie tickets. The last time I went to watch a movie, I was shocked to find out that the ticket price has gone up to Rs.300/-. Now high ticket rates are no longer a surprise when it comes to watching films at multiplexes. But I was taken aback because exactly a year earlier, tickets used to be sold at less than Rs. 200/- even on weekends. I decided not to watch the film and decided to wait till the time when it would be aired on television.
Keeping the price factor aside, Select City Walk doesn't disappoint on any front. But when stores and shops and shopping are on one's mind while visiting the place, the price thingie is actually taken into consideration!
