Inspired by the Godfather??? well, thats as good a starting point as any, would be interesting to see RGV's take on mary poppins for instance.

Had huge expectations from this one, went in actually open to seeing a good film, and tried not to colour my view with the obvious comparisons. I actually thought the guy was being brave and attempting something truly great. I mean there's an awe associated with people who even TRY to climb the himalayas. This film would be the equivalent of a rock on bandstand in THAT scheme of things.

Disappointing and downright pissing off, and thats an understatement. It didnt help that I watched this despicable sight with a telegu idiot, who was supplying all kinds of trivia which made me think how badly this guy's gone off. Not only missed the dartboard, poor guys thrown it outside the window and killed a streetdog too. Seems the bizarrely unrelated ''govinda, govinda'' soundtrack was from some other film that had got canned or something, think I dozed off while he was speaking, so he used it in this to make a point. Would have been much more interesting if he's used the reject costumes, high heels, actors and actresses from that (thankfully) canned project.Saved some money and saved my time. Ho hum.

Was predictably enough surrounded with the applause of people who are marvelling at the cleverness of basing godfather in bombay, the subtle ''homage?'' to a certain saffron figure, the clever twist of re-interpreting the italian mafia with the bombay underworld. All the kinds of jerks who'd read the reviews in their heads and then entered to watch the film. I ask simply, whats clever?? and RGV underlined my case by announcing his next film, Sholay, another mindless venture, which is based on guess what???The bombay underworld! And the predictable shock value, amitabh as gabbar. probably the same kindof con-job that guarantees him atleast one person who says ''Let me see this ONCE.''

Am somehow reminded of the diseased bollywood remixes that leave SUCH a bad taste in your mouth, not to mention ears, that you lose your taste for the originals as well.

Ram Gopal Verma has effectively done to Godfather what Salman Khan did to Europe and the ''Final countdown''. he's de-sanctified a perfectly great film by attempting to indianise without adding any value whatsoever. I guess its time to accept Bollywood as a potent tool and force, with enough steam to generate its own content, and not be satisfied with a stupid remake with no idea what it's doing except claiming lineage. This film is a Puru Raj kumar.

Sometimes if u're not re-inventing, its better not to re-interpret. I seriously doubt that changing the location, getting rid of the story, wasting the time and talent of actors of calibre and not to mention the brain cells and retinas of an entire nation of people qualifies as a worthy experiment. And to assure viewership by standing on the shoulders of giants and then taking a pee, is kindof unnecessary.
