My daughter wanted an mp3 player so I shopped around.There was Trancend, there was Philips, there were many more I saw in the shops.
But I stopped looking further when I saw the Samsung YP-S2, also known as the Pebble.This is because it shaped like a small pebble.Looks like a piece of jewelery, but also plays music.
And plays music surprisingly well.I had a very low opinion of mp3 players till then.Hearing is believing. The full sound spectrum is audible, especially the bass which is really full and true. I had initially tried it with my Bang & Olufsen headphones and wrongly attributed the sound output to them.The Samsung EP370 headphones that came standard also gave excellent output.It plays MP3, WMA and OGG files.The controls (5) are basic, simple and easy to use.
Top and bottom control volume, left and right buttons select the previous and next tracks. The button in the center has multiple functions: On, Off, Pause.There is also a Smart button on the side of the control buttons.This button can select any of the 3 equalizer pre-sets (Normal/Studio/Concert Hall). I personally found Normal the best.This button can also select the Play Mode:Repeat playing Mode (Blue light flashes) , Shuffle Mode (Green, Blue and Pink lights flash) and Playing List mode(Pink light flashes).
If you dont like the flashing light, you can shut it off by going to pause and then pressing the smart button. Leave the player in pause long enough and it will shut itself off. The S2 uses a small headphone to USB adapter (supplied) to connect on to your PC. The one that I bought has 2gb.That is enough space for quite a lot of music. My PC detected it without having to install any drivers from the supplied cd.It showed in My Computer like any Pen Drive and was as easy to use for transferring music files.
It also can be used like a pen drive.You can copy video or image files into it and view them on your DVD player if it has a USB port, just like you would do with any other pen drive.
Plug it into the USB port on your car audio and use it as a reqular storage device. Or, use it just for listening to good clean sounding sound without any artifical colouration. The Samsung EP370 headphones are designed to wear as a necklace with the S2 as a pendant.The player is held firmly in place by a clip which latches into a recess on the player body and it will not come off under normal circumstances.
I will need to buy another S2 since I use this one more than my daughter
