Samsung Monte(S5620) – got one three days back and am loving it. With its 3" touch-screen and 3.2 mp camera, it looks sleek and stylish. A touch of matt-finished orangish-golden colour on the sides is a welcome change from the other black slabs we are used to. A 2 GB MircoSD card is bundled with it, which is fairly decent memory space if you are not a movie buff. I have seen guys watching movies on mobiles in trains & buses! Go on man, get a laptop.
Back to the phone – the touch is very responsive; menu is elaborate and presented in 3 screens; the 3.2 mp camera quality is quite good in light(no flash makes it useless in dim light/dark); 3 fonts for menus are interesting; 3 widgets are given with support for frequently used items; sound quality is good – and the protruding earphones go right into your inner ears; sim card is also push & click like memory card and you don’t have to remove the battery for it or the memory card(grow some nails to open the back cover – it is too tight); it has facebook, myspace, IM(instant messaging using Palringo), yahoo, etc. built into the menu; dictionary is a very good feature; 5 games(why they have stored Google Maps & Palringo in games is beyond my understanding).
Additional features which you may/may not need – 3G(waiting for Airtel to launch it), GPS(in case you are lost and for Google Maps); wi-fi, which is basically fast wireless internet to be used at wifi hotspots and for connecting with other wifi devices(we had infrared, then Bluetooth and now wifi), document viewer & printing feature; mobile tracker etc.
Cons – no flash with 3.2 mp camera; only Cricket game is full version; all others are trial versions – to be bought & downloaded online.
Love the features – The phone lock can be opened by drawing an alphabet on the screen. A stylish ‘V’ does it for mine(my better half’s initial). I love playing the piano(dialing numbers) on the digital keypad as each key gives a different tone. The photos turn horizontal & vertical automatically when you turn the phone – in fact, in the horizontal position, a tilt on either side slides the photos automatically. Image editor is good – for touching up photos or for putting horns on your spouse’s head. It also charges from USB(what a relief).
All in all, a phone recommended for its smart features and good looks.
