Let's start with the looks.Galaxy S4 looks splendid in white (that was the first thing that popped in my mind when I looked at the phone. Fell in love with the looks, somehow)! Not too big, fits in your pocket unlike the note series, this one easily fits in your hand. And add an s-view cover to it, the phone is the eye candy! (came free for me.. EMI offer.. 3k/month.. add an old phone and additional 5k off.. and the display warranty for 500/year) I bought the 16 GB one and the good thing about Samsung phones - they have an expandable memory slot.So start with 16 GB and maybe get a new memory card later when need be (since I went broke after buying this phone).
Touch is simply amazing. Feather touch is the word! It's a cakewalk. You feel like using it again and again. And more than chatting, enjoy playing games. good resolution, amazing graphics, display is just so cool (LED screen)! In love with this piece.
Dual shot is a cool feature introduced by Samsung wherein you click a picture using both the cameras - primary and secondary. You can also choose from a variety of layouts for the feature; stamp size, then there's a cheesy heart wala layout, split window. It's fun! Try it.
What's cool about the camera is, it can also be controlled by voice. Say capture, smile, cheese or shoot and voila! You have the picture. Also when the flash is off the response time is amazing! It's quick. The picture quality is very good. The s-view cover acts as your tripod on self timer, when there's no one around to click your picture just select self-timer and balance your phone with the help of s-view cover and you're good to go.
Another fun thing with s-view cover is the locking-unlocking, close the cover - screen locked, open the cover - screen unlocked. Accept calls directly from the small window of the cover.
S beam is another feature. File transfer to phones with an s-beam or WiFi direct. Hold the devices back to back tap on the file you want to share. The other device gets the connection. Separate the devices and tadaa! Your file is received.
Smart Scroll - The window scrolls as per your eye gestures but the camera needs to detect your eyes first, requires adequate lighting though. Same for the video which pauses when you look away. Hence, smart video. Keep playing with the phone when the eyes detected look at video, look away, video, away, video, away. play - pause - play - pause. Fun thing!
Smart Stay - The screen stays on as long as you're looking at it. Smart screen indeed!
S voice is S4's very own Siri. You can command the phone, ask the weather, talk to your phone in a way, start with Hi, Galaxy! You can also stop or snooze alarms with voice commands or control the music player with voice.
Then there is Air Gesture! Control your device by making specific gestures with your hand over the sensor. Accept incoming calls by waving your hands over the phone, select the app icon and move your hand left or right above the sensor to change the location of the icon, scroll through web pages with your hand gestures - up or down.
The multi-window option- Open multiple browsers and multiple apps.
Oh! and Air-View - Get information by hovering your finger over the screen - image enlarged, see message detail without actually opening the message, assigned speed dial contacts from the keypad, scene or elapsed time by hovering your finger over the progress bar. You're not actually touching it but just getting your finger close to the screen for magnification.
Now, moving to the drawbacks. The phones under performs in certain aspects. If the air-view, air gestures, smart screen and smart scroll features are switched on the whole time, a major portion of battery is consumed. Sometimes on opening camera, the phone freezes and restarts. And yes, the problem that everyone has said, the phone heats up when charging. I haven't faced that extreme situation as read in many reviews.
Since I owned an s-plus earlier, this was a major upgrade for me and am enjoying every bit of it. Haven't regretted spending this exorbitant amount yet! I am in favor of an S4, I'm loving it!
