Samsung DVD Player - We Get What We Pay For
I bought the Samsung 9460 DVD player around three years back in Metro, Yeshwantpur Bangalore. Generally I prefer Sony or Philips products, but this time for a change, exciting offer & high recommendations from the sales staff made me to buy Samsung DVD Player.
This is a simple, sleek, stylish designed & reasonably priced DVD player. It does all the DVD basics with minimal hassle and offers good picture quality. It plays all the formats VCD, audio CD, mp3 etc.
For nearly one year I did not find any problems. This was the first Samsung product I've purchased and I absolutely liked this DVD player as long as it was working. The picture & sound quality was good. But after one year warranty period was over, it started giving problems. Sometimes it would not identify the CD’s, DVD’s etc. It used to display ‘cannot play the disc’.
Over the period of time I have purchased several DVD players and I use electronic products very smoothly. I am surprised to see my Philips DVD player that is over seven years old is still in good working condition and this Samsung DVD could not sustain for few years. When I approached the Samsung service center for repair, they were quoting nearly the price of the new player. Why not to buy the new one instead of repairing the old piece.
Pros:
Good sound & image quality
Easy to operate
Sleek & stylish designed
Reasonably priced
Cons:
There are some drawbacks; the player is slow to respond to the remote commands. Pressing power on the remote takes a few seconds to turn off & even pressing menu, play, pause, etc takes some more time.
There's no USB port.
Skipping is a problem. Sound and pictures glitches can be found when skipping tracks.
The player has a hard time reading DVDs with some scratches or stains.
After sales service is not up to the mark
Overall if you're looking for a simple, reasonably-priced DVD player, then Samsung's DVD player is a good choice but not the best. If you are looking for a quality product, then strictly no. We Get What We Pay For. I still prefer Sony or Philips over Samsung.
